As much as I hate to ask, is UVU's program moving ahead of Weber's in the State pecking order? Pope is already getting some good commits and has hired some good assistants. Along with Nielsen, who already showed what he can do against Weber, they just got a 4 star transfer from Xavier. Also, don't forget that SUU is also getting better after already sweeping us this season.

You cant be serious right? They have like 5 JUCO's this next season. Sure they have two decent transfers but you never how well those things come together. I don't think there are too many instances where they have beat us head to head on the recruiting trail. Not sure how many kids grow up thinking I want to go to the same school as Ronnie Price. If they go to the tournament a few times we may want to talk about it. Many times getting transfers is all about immediate future opportunity. Our roster has been pretty stable and I don't think guys see a lot of opportunity here at least not right away.

As far as SUU goes, the gap has gotten a little closer. They might not get the most talented kids but he sure has them playing together right now.

I wouldn't put them ahead of us yet, but they're not that far behind and Pope could have them improving quickly. Correct me if I'm wrong, but we are 0-something all-time in Utah County. Guess I'm just tired of losing in-state and feeling like everyone is getting better while Weber is stuck in neutral when it comes to in-state. :dead:

NO!

They've had some good coaches and a couple of good players over the years, but they are not even close in almost any category you want to measure.

I still don't know why Hunsaker retired. It seemed like he was in the prime of his coaching career. There is something beneath that story. I expect to see him pop up as someone else's coach real soon. Their new coach seems like a good hire. He has a lot of recruiting contacts, but so did Hunsaker. I would think it hard to recruit to Utah County, in the shadow of YBU. Maybe that will be Pope's recruiting strategy, to get all of the YBU castoffs. I'm sure that he will have a honeymoon period, but over the long haul it is just more :wall: , and a little bit of  .

:tothehand: is what most non LDS players feel about Utah County, and UVU.

I know we offered Truman Moore at one time and he signed with UVU. Don't know if we were still recruiting him when he committed though.

Hunsaker wore out his welcome with his vulgarity laced tirades. I've heard of fans that stopped going to games or sitting near the bench because of it. That stuff won't fly in Utah County.

There are many, many things that won't fly in Utah County. The closest I would come is to fly through it.

That is why I say Pope, over the long haul, will find it quite hard to get the players he needs to compete at the D1 level. There will be some, like the ones mentioned above, but year in and year out the best LDS players will end up elsewhere and top non LDS players are not looking at UVU as a good place to have a D1 career. It's really just that simple. Utah County has a horrible reputation.

They kill black kids for acting 'strangely'. :yikes:

I dislike Happy Valley as much as the next guy, but I think you're overplaying this a bit. BYU surely has stigma for non-lds kids from outside of Utah, but I'm not sure they look at Utah County any differently than the rest of Utah.

http://espn.go.com/mens-college-basketball/player/_/id/66175/brandon-randolph" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

He doesn't look like he did too much at Xavier. There is a reason why he is transferring. If Randolph was a highly sought after transfer, he would have gone somewhere other than UVU.

Nielsen was a no-brainer. He lost his scholarship at the Y because Kaufusi ended up becoming a lot better than expected (I'd love to have him at Weber by the way...Kaufusi) and they have three other bigs coming back from missions. Pope needed bigs.

Moore...Yes, Weber was recruiting Moore, but look what we ended up with? I think we cooled on him. Dallas and Nzekwesi didn't get a lot of stars, but look at the number of schools they each had recruiting them. Also, they were in bigger communities. Weber definitely got better players.

As for winning in Utah County...We are CURSED! There is no other way to say it. I hate it too and hope it ends, but even with out best teams, some how Weber ends up losing. Pope is a good coach. I think Robinson is a far better coach and that is why SUU is improving. Also, they have a team that has played exclusively together for two years now and really haven't lost anyone. Same thing that happened in Cheney is happening in Cedar, sans Harvey and Jois. Will SUU be good next year? Yes...no other way to say it. As for UVU...I think losing Dick is a HUGE loss for the Wolverines. He built their entire program; however, there are a lot of people down in Utah County, there is a lot of $$$ down there, and UVU is quickly sucking up all the available ink which isn't a good thing for Weber. A perfect storm is a brewing.

Weber needs to start taking care of business and getting its crap in gear. Can't get complacent.

i hope to see uvu keep moving up. they are in a conf now where they can actually go to the ncaa tourney unlike before.

i would put uvu and suu in the same boat since they both get dis'd locally even more so that weber. uvu and suu combine for about 4-5 wins in ogden all time and uvu has 0 of them. i think 25 games? thats not much to brag about even with weber having never won in utah county against byu, uvu and neutral. :yikes:

technically suu and weber and uvu are all equals. i just hope we continue to play them annually. its such an embarrassment to not play them even if it isn't our own fault.

Weber and UVU are nowhere near the same level. If the football-less WAC and it's new to D1 schools, appear to be anywhere near the Big Sky and all it's history, then the Sky needs a major rebranding.
