Vernon Adams heading to the CFL

He'll light up the CFL. So BC Lions owns his CFL rights...I believe Travis Lulay (Montana State) is their #1 QB. Good Luck VA...light it up!

BLM has been the league MVP and I believe VA is capable of doing that too. What is the status of Matt Nichols? It would be quite impressive if Eastern had 3 starting QBs at the same time in CFL

I'm excited to watch him play if he is with the BC Lions, that's pretty close to us Washington Alumni. I've got tickets to watch the Bears play Bo Levi Mitchel in Vancouver in late June. Excited to see BLM play!

Good for him. It's always good to have a plan B and I'm confident be'll be able to do great things in the CFL. Who knows, maybe he could even pull a Flutie.

Interesting development; strange to trade a first round draft pick for negotiating rights to a contract. They must have a lot of belief that he will be a star player in their system.

A little bit of a bummer, though, having to live in Montreal when you could have been living in Vancouver.

signed a three year contract...

I was wondering the other day...

What if Vernon had stayed at Eastern. There is a fair chance we would have beaten the ducks, which would have been an historic win. If you couple that with a likely deep playoff run, do you think his draft outcome may have been different?

No. He had plenty of looks and prestige at Oregon. He just didn't have the measurables.

I tend to think it would have gone different had he stayed at EWU. His press and hype after his junior year was through the roof, if he had a great year at EWU his senior year (he would have) he would have had so much press and hype it would have been tough to pass on him. I just think their would have been this mystique of "what can he do at the next level" and he may have been given a better shot.

I think getting injured at Oregon really hurt him because it showed what scouts were really worried about, that size frame at a bigger level can lead to concern.

Hope he does well in the CFL and gets another shot at the Big Leagues...

Come on, he broke a finger!

I think you're spot on. I'm still surprised no one picked him up on the cheap, especially when there's a lot of sh*tty QB's already in the NFL. He can still make the bigs though, he just has to make a longer climb than most. If he shows that he's the best QB in the CFL, and he has something special (which I think he does), someone will grab him when his contract is up.

Best of luck to him.

Not mentioned here by anyone yet is the character factor. Personally, I've moved passed the fact that he left EWU in the dust and went to Oregon, even though I still think it was a mistake. But, how many teams and people looked at the situation and said "he left his teammates at the snap of a finger for the 'prestige' of a major program." Maybe it had absolutely nothing to do with their evaluation of VA. But what if it did?

Obviously, there are major differences between Wentz and Adams, but the fact that Wentz came from an FCS program sure didn't effect his draft status. Adams was never going to be a first or second round pick because of his size, but what if he'd shown the character to turn down offers from Oregon and said this is my team, these are the coaches that built me, and this is where I need to be. Character can go a long way... Just look at Russell Wilson.

People are thinking far too little about scouts if they think they are looking so deeply into petty things. Vernon Adams was a fantastic college quarterback, but he simply wasn't athletic enough for the NFL. Period. If there was any team that could look past his height, it would be Seattle. Heck, Seattle is almost better at picking up free agents than they are at drafting. He wasn't up to snuff and got beat out by Boykin. Quickly. Did anyone notice how he only lasted for a few days in both the NFL camps he attended? He just doesn't have what it takes for the NFL.

Vernon will light up the CFL. He will never play a down in the NFL.

I think there is more to the story for some reason. Adams did great at EWU, he did really well at Oregon, he basically proved he was a winner at both college levels. He then lit up the senior bowl and had a decent combine.

It was extremely odd to me that no one picked him in the draft, then no one signed him as a undrafted FA, and then he was cut from both tryouts. On top of that, the CFL team that drafted his rights and was absolutely gaga about him, then traded him...maybe it was a $$$ thing in the CFL

Something just seems odd about the whole situation...

And he was hurt in the Alamo bowl with concussion symptoms...

Not to mention his CFL contract is less than I make as a first year teacher.

There might be something more there, but I think it's the same old story of a fantastic college football player whose skills didn't translate well into the NFL. Bo Levi Mitchell and J.C. Sherritt were never even given a shot at the NFL.

Maybe it's not Vernon who's lacking, but the many crappy NFL franchises who have whiffed on talent for so many years. Johnny Football, JaMarcus Russell, Vince Young. Hell, Joey Harrington had a Nike-sponsored Heisman campaign. In 2013, Vernon looked every bit as good or better than Sean Mannion. Mannion's on the Rams roster, while Vernon has to learn French. Personally, I think Vernon should be on an NFL roster somewhere.
