Video board or expanded grandstands?

Both at the same time. 8-)

At least that's what Marc Hughes, Athletic Advancement Director alluded to at halftime of the NAU game.

Do have plans in place, like MSU did, or is it just a...as funds became made available, projects will be implemented?

I'm sure there are plans in place, but they have not been made public as of yet. I know Marc is working his tail off along with others in the athletic office to improve the game day environment. Compared to last season (not to mention prior years), the atmosphere is improved with the additional end zone beer garden, more tailgating, and some smaller cosmetic fixes to the stadium.
Look for a video board to be installed this off season and as far as other improvements go, I have heard many rumors floating around. Lots of ideas, everything from moving the field towards the natural hill and horseshoeing it out to lowering the playing surface and moving the track. In any event, there's a real potential to turn Roos field into a truly fantastic facility in the near future.

I believe funds were the original issue (correct me if i'm wrong), but I also think it was a number of other things. It was rumored that we may be able to obtain the video board from University of Washington but haven't heard anything concerning that lately. Anyone have any information there?

As far as any additions/improvements to the east side seating. It was a tough sell when we could barely bring 5000 fans to the game, but with the attendance this year and hopefully continuing now I'm sure the seating on the east side will move up on the priorty list. Attendance, even with an 0-4 start this year, has been great and the game day atmosphere and activities have really improved this year. Things are definitely moving in the right direction.

Does the beer garden/food place get a lot of folks?

Yeah, I wouldn't be surprised if the track goes bye bye when east grandstands are built. Wouldn't be that hard....and it would help SO much!

As for the beer garden, it was pretty packed out. Mike Roos and his entourage were down there and there are TVs set up to show the broadcast (when available). It's brand new this year but word is quickly getting out. I'll get some more info from my buddy (one of the lead sponsors) about pricing. I know beers are 5 bucks, and the view can't be beat. It's also fun because we are right next to where the teams run out. Perfect opportunity for heckling of the opponents!

My view from the beer garden. Can't beat it, especially when the Eags score 10 feet in front of you!

I'm a fairly new fan to EWU football in the big picture as I've only been here since 2009. That said, I've been to every home game since that season and I can't believe how much the game day experience has improved just in the past 3 seasons!! I can't wait for the improvements to continue happening to Roos Field. I've been to many games at WGS in Missoula as I used to live over there and I must say that I've always been jealous of what they have. However, each year I feel better about the direction of EWU fans. It will be a very long time before we're ever drawing 26,000 fans (doesn't help sharing fans with 3 other schools in the area) but as long as we can keep packing the stadium, things will only continue to improve! :thumb:

EWUEagle2010,
Welcome to the "Gang", we have an outstanding bunch of Eagle Backers, and others that visit the blog very often. I have been following this team now for 12 years. Have seen the highs and lows, the progress we have made with our renovation at Roos Field. :thumb: :thumb:

I retired from EWU 16 years ago, worked there for 21 years. We have come a very long way, and it takes money to get to where we would like to go. Thanks to former Students, Athletes, dedicated doners/fans, we are where we are today. I remember the pressbox used to look like a storage bin for high hurdles. :( I am now looking at the "PICTURE' of the new pressbox built in 2004, was called "Woodard Field Renovation Project 2004. If you need to get any more information, call Mr. Mark Hughes, he will fill you in. p.s. he did authorize me to state this. He is in the Athletic Department Area. Again, welcome to the blog. Go Eagles!!!!! Vic Wallace

FrontFive4Life,
I bet you wish you were still playing with all the renovations that will be coming sooner or later. I have heard the same things most of you have heard, reference to the renovations. There is a lot planned for the East side of Roos Field. Was surely nice to see Mike Roos, P. Terrell, and the rest of of his friends. Whenever, Mike comes here, he is always with his former players. He haven't forgotten any of his friends, he is an "OUTSTANDING YOUNG MAN". We had many conversations when he was here playing for EWU.

We have some more injuries from Saturday, will let the Big Wigs mention their names. Don't want to piss anyone off. ;) ;) I would not release any names unless I clear it with Coach Baldwin. Didn't stay very long yesterday at practice. They started about 4:50pm, after the sun went down, these bones started to chill :    , had to hit the road. Will be back out today, and hope I can stay a little longer. Got to hit the SACK. Go Eagles!!!!! Vic

Oh, where the hell is your National Champion Flag? HUH?
Ya wheres the flag??? It would be cool to have a large NC flag as the fourth flag when the cheer squad ran around the field.

In addition to your tickets to get into the game it costs another 30 bucks.

I figured you would have one either below the USA flag or on it's own pole, with room for many others. (just not at the expense of the Griz)

Thanks for the info on the beer garden thing. Hopefully the powers up top make that a regular thing that expands.

Short term will be the video board.....from the interview I heard it didn't really sound like the UW video board was going to fly. Might cost a lot to retro-fit, and they also want the newest HD technology.

I, for one.....cannot wait until they finally do something with those East Grand-stands....I have been an Eagle fan since 1993, and I can remember when there was NOTHING over there. Seriously, though, it's an eyesore, and the look of that venue would improve about 100% with something permanent. Would also do massive things in terms of recruiting benefit. The real solution is investing in the long-term infrastructure of the University and the town. This includes athletics, which is basically the face of the University. Five years from now, Eastern could easily be a school of 15,000 students. We need to be thinking very long-term, and I think the powers that be finally get that.

Great picture by the way. :thumb:

I heard the UW video board is out... it really isn't that nice to begin with and the cost to reconfigure and set up was almost on par with a new board.

If I had to choose new seating on the or a video board, hands down, I'd take the new permanent grandstand. Not even close. Ideally we could do both, but that might not be pragmatic with our lack of funds.

I doubt Eastern is ever going to be drawing 26,000 like Montana, but I think we could easily become a program that draws 14-15,000 per game, but need to have quality seating to accommodate that kind of crowd. Right now, our stadium only seats about 7,500 well (and that includes 1,600 in the endzone) and whoever is left gets stuck in low-rise aluminum bleachers... not exactly a fan-friendly environment.
