Thank you for the game ball, Scott. It is maddening at times. I do think anyone who actually went to North Dakota and watched that crap live should get TWO game balls. :thumb:

Appreciate your articles Scott. Heart breaking loss...again. I do believe if Corn had not gone down we would have avoided some of what we saw. But you can't be too hard on his replacement since the coaching staff doesn't believe in playing any backups to give them any experience. But the play calling...really? Both sides of the ball we look schizophrenic. We are on the verge of calling plays to our strengths and then just can't seem to hold the course.

At this point in the program there must be one of three things going on behind the scenes. #1 Leadership wants a football program but there is agreement we can't just can't afford to make a change and we are "forced" to ride it out. #2 Leadership is content with mediocrity and "winning isn't everything". #3 Leadership really wants to see football at PSU fade away in the years to come so a slow death is the plan.

Feel terrible for those boys. Feel bad for the fans. It is painful when you know there is so much potential...

Why is the third quarter such a debacle game after game?

2014 3rd quarter points (only two games):
BSC games: PSU-0 Opponents-28 (add the CP game and it's PSU-0 Opponents-42)

2013 3rd quarter points (full season):
BSC games: PSU-31 Opponents-73

This points to coaching; either from the box or from the field, this is a coaching problem.

As a complete outsider to the program, I don't know any players, I didn't even go to PSU, I'm just a Vikings fan. just based on what I've observed, I'm starting to wonder if option #3 may be what is going on.

Marty,

The 3rd quarter scoring problem has one root, poor coaching. Sorry, but its obvious that they go into half time and fail to make adjustments or anticipate the adjustments the opponent will make. Even if you have a good first half you have to make adjustments b/c your opponent is going to adjust. We never change, we just "keep doing what we are doing". Poor Coaching.

As much as I hate to criticize the coaches (they usually know more about football than I do), I think this is right on. Halftime is about making adjustments and, based on results, for some reason our adjustments are not right. Even Davis came out right after halftime and almost stole the game, too.

I'm not real big on armchair coaching either but these stats don't lie. There's honestly no other explanation. Anecdotal information from players seems to confirm it as well. Add to that the comments we get from every opposing coach about fearing our athleticism and it looks like its probably a coaching issue.

I will say this however. KM does not check down on his reads so it has to be really hard to adjust. As long as he focuses in on a single target each play, our passing O will suck. 40% completion rate is terrible and that blame falls squarely on the QB.

Hoping all falls in place on Saturday. Fingers still crossed after all these years.
