Viking Tradition?

I think you guys are forgetting one important song......a fight song.

sorry, I haven't attended any recent games, so do you guys play your fight song

when the team enters the field? after touchdowns?

Whether it be played over a PA system, or via marching band.
Nothing should fire up the team and fans more than your school's own fight song.

The tune to our fight song is fairly catchy, and it does get played over the PA at games. You also hear it on radio broadcasts.

Oh God all the years blend together but once we had guys I think they were Army guys repel down from the stadium roof on ropes. Also they used to have the ROTC fire blanks from a cannon.

One of the cheerleaders did pushups for every point we scored. I called him "pushups" and yelled the count along with him. Mouse would give him a workout.

There was a 7 or 8 person music department band and I think they got paid. But probably not much. Who knows maybe it was work study. There were keyboards a couple of horns drums guitar bass. I know the sax player. He was a student but now he teaches there.

As far as passing this along to the Athletic Department just send them an e-mail. I've done it before and they always seem appreciative of fan input and ideas.

The band is an absolute necesity, Hopefully something can be done in the next few years to right this wrong.

The Park Blocks should have a Vikings statue, its not like there isn't enough worthless art in the blocks anyways, you might as well put a statue up that people can actually know what it is.

Also I remember the Red Mile from the "locker room" if you wanna call it that at fresno state. That was a rather interesting experience I don't think I will ever forget.

Since it is getting close to game week, here are a few McNeese traditions that any of you guys that come down might see.

About an hour before game time, the Band marches through all of the three reserved tailgate areas and plays both fight songs and the drumline performs for the tailgating fans.

When they finally get to the stadium, they stop on the ramp and play "Jolie Blonde" which is the old traditional unofficial fight song which is played along with "On McNeese" , the official fight song after touchdowns.

The Band sways to the music while playing Jolie Blonde and all the fans sway and double clap to the beat.

Since ROTC is not on campus any more, the Buccaneers from the Contraband Days Festival bring an old replica canon that is fired after touchdowns.

And, of course, the cheerleaders do pushups for each point scored.

After the Band perfoms pregame or at halftime, the Tubs do what they call their Fighting Tuba Circle.

After the halftime Band performance, the Drumline performs to the student section.

And the ringing of Cowbells at McNeese games has been a tradition longer than I've been alive and I'm older than dirt.

A new tradition started last year is the playing of a portion of the Saturday Night Live clip about "needing more cowbell".

Sorry, if I'm boring you guys, but I'm bored and am ready for the game to be here NOW!!!
