Vikings sink Hornets

The Portland State Vikings took down Sac this afternoon 95-86 at the Hornets Nest. The game was one of runs, especially in the first half, when PSU had a huge lead at the halfway point until bogging down and letting Sac back in it. After that, it was neck and neck until the end.

The game was horribly officiated, but the difference wasn't so much that as free throw shooting. The Vikings made theirs, and the Hornets did not.

Rivals Yahoo! players of the game were G Claire Faucher (5-11, 12 pts, 8 rebs, 13 assts) for Portland State and G Jasmine Cannady (6-15, 16 pts, 8 rebs, 2 assts) for Sac. F Charday Hunt added 21 pts for Sac, and G/F Kelly Marchant knocked in 31 for PSU.

PSU evened their overall record at 7-7 (1-0 Big Sky). Sac dropped to 3-10 (0-2 Big Sky). The Hornets are next in action Tuesday at U of San Francisco, 7:05 PM. The next Hornet home game is Thursday 21 Jan vs. Northern Colorado at 7:05. The rematch comes in Portland Fri 5 Feb at 7:05 (per Sac schedule; PSU schedule says 7 on the dot). PSU opens a two-game homestand Fri and Sat 8 and 9 Jan, entertaining the Montana schools at 7 each night.

Hornet men get sunk as well. 66-94. A good old fasioned blow-out. Hornets need to learn how to play a little defence. Maybe then they wouldn't need to spend the entire 2nd half throwing up desperate low percentage shots.

This is a terrible way to start 2010 for both basketball squads. Hopefully they can bounce back.
