Viks Picked 3rd By Coaches, Media

I think third is fair for a pre-season poll for the Viking squad this year.

Arguments for saying it's too low would be that we return a lot of guys from a team that was very, very close to making it to the BSC championship game last year and just about beat the team that went on to the NCAA tourney.

Arguments for it being too high would be point guard play and who's going to step up at the five spot in the event of Morrison getting into foul trouble. Last year we had Washington, but who is going to step it up if we need to go big? Moore? Coston? We have to wait on Teifenthaler until after the fall term, but will it take time for him to come in and gel?

I think 3rd is about right. If Morrison becomes more aggressive and Dominguez fits in at point, this ranking could be low. Received my season tickets yesterday. Go Viks!

Coach says Team-Canada center Scott Morrison back-up J.R. Moore (Benson Tech) is playing hard and has developed a great attitude. Alex Tiefenthaler (coming in December) and Kyle "Kibosh" Coston will add shooting strength and height while Tyrell Mara has talent developed himself into a banger's body. If our coaching can match performances with those of Weber State, I think we will by contending for the Title and the Dance.

I think you hit it. The talent is there, but definitely not the coaching. Bone is a very nice gentleman, with a good understanding of basketball, but has no ability to relate to young men ("of today" - sorry for the cliche), and no idea what's really going on with his team and his players. The fact that he still has Geving there running things (the defacto head coach), despite the fact he is universally despised by the players, is proof enough Bone is out of touch - and unable to make tough decisions.
I suspect we're in store for another year where the players will do well enough, in spite of Bone and Geving.

I would say that some of these players are transfers, and players that don't value an education. Wait until Coach Bone and Geving get "their guys" into leader positions before we make judgements on the Coaches. all I know is that talent is coming here (they must like the Coaches at some point) and we are more exciting and successful than in years past.

Other than transfers, who has Bone recruited? As far as I know his only high school recruits are Kyle and Julius. Julius has great leadership qualities, and will be a team leader. However, for a team to really perform, and have chemistry, they also have to have respect for their coach and his decisions, and I think also enjoy playing for him. From what I've seen, Bone misses out on all counts. If you like, I suggest you watch the body language of the players as they interact with the coaches. I don't expect it be any different than last year.

If what you say is true, then why do the players stay? Your arguement just doesn't make no sense to me. Also, PSU just received a verbal from Jason Conrad a 6-11 kid from CA that several other schools were recruiting, Justynn Hammond is another high schooler Bone has recruited and signed that has tons of potential. If you know more, tell us. The only one I saw with an attitude was Sommer who is no longer on the team and frankly played mediocre compared to his first year.

I am just speculating here but if indeed some of these players have attitudes or they don't like the coaches its probably the transfers or holdovers from last regime. the transfers that have came are simply too good to pass up, regardless of attitude but you they transfered for a reason so the probably had some issues at their last school.

the players must also understand that this is Division 1 college basketball. The coaches are paid to coach and the players should play. Even if you don't like a coach you should do as they say or be prepared to sit or find a new place to play. This is their craft and they should have enough respect for it that they do the best that they can at all times.

The only holdovers from the previous coach are the Canadians, Scott Morrison and Tyrell Mara. Neither of these two have poor attitudes, so again what GustaViking stated is perplexing to me.
