OGDEN, Utah – Whitney Phillips tallied 21 kills for the second night in a row and Portland State got back on track with a straight-sets victory at Weber State on Saturday night.

One night after losing in four sets at Idaho State, the Vikings (13-8, 8-2 Big Sky) bounced back with a solid effort and won by scores of 28-26, 25-15, 25-14 over Weber State.

It didn't look good early, though. The Viks momentarily held a lead at the beginning of the first frame before Weber State slowly took over. A Vikings' attack error gave the Wildcats a 19-13 advantage and at that point PSU's offense was struggling. But Portland State righted the ship behind two kills from Christie Hamilton and one each from Phillips and Cara Olden. The Wildcats also had two attack errors during the comeback that got the Vikings within one, 20-19.

Weber State pushed it to set point, 24-22, on a swing by Bethany Wray, but Phillips hammered home three-straight kills to give the Vikings their first lead since they were up 3-2 early on. With the score tied at 26-26, Portland State got kills from Megan Ellis and Phillips to pull out the victory.

After allowing the Wildcats to hit .233 in the opening set, the Vikings held WSU to a -.037 mark in the second frame and no percentage in the final set. Weber State finished hitting .091, while PSU hit .281.

Phillips racked up 10 of her 21 kills in the first set. Hamilton tacked on seven kills, hit .455 and led the team with four block assists, and Diana Villalpando recorded a match-best 10 digs.

Wray paced the Wildcats (3-20, 1-9 Big Sky) with 13 kills and Carissa Noble contributed 10 more.

NOTES: PSU outblocked Weber State, 8.0-2.0 ... the Vikings have won 10 of their past 12 matches. Eight of those victories have been sweeps ... Portland State's win evened the Big Sky series with Weber State at 15-15. The Viks lead the all-time series, 27-15 ... Phillips has recorded 21 kills in three-straight matches. In all, Phillips has tallied 20 or more kills 11 times this season and 21 times in her career ... PSU returns to the Park Blocks for its next two matches. They host Montana on Friday and Montana State on Saturday.
