Vs. Idaho State

Well if Weber State wins this game, they do not have to share a title. I honestly didn’t think 5-0 would get a sole title, but it’s a crazy year.

I think this will be another battle and nothing like the opener. ISU has a loss at UC Davis in last 10 seconds and a loss vs EWU where they choked by trying to run out the clock too soon.

Bottom line, is they are a couple of plays from competing fora share of the title this Spring. Their QB is good.

This is the last game of the Spring, so ISU will give it everything they got.

I am thinking this might be the game Weber State puts a solid game together and still wins by a few scores.

Any status on Davis’s injury?

Go Wildcats! Time for a solo title!

I think it will be a tight game - the last four have been tight and it will come down to make a handful of plays to get the win.
While watching this team the past few weeks, I have noted they are close to being a complete and dominate team. They miss a few plays here and there that allows the other team to hang around (or get ahead as in UCD & SUU). If they clean up those plays (such as missed tackles, penalties, dropped balls, etc.), they win by a much larger margin. I am sure the coaching staff is well aware of this and it will be a point of focus this week (and during the bye week prior to the playoffs assuming Weber wins on Saturday).

Looking for them to shift into the next gear of execution so they go from being a very good team to a great team.

I feel that a large part of our inconsistency are things that are out of our hands, like injuries, illness, officiating and timing of bye weeks. We show glimpses of greatness, but have yet to put a full game together.

As the eternal optimist, I feel like this might be the week that we finally put a full game together.

Can anyone provide an update about some of the players that have been regulars in the past are not seeing the playing field this spring. i.e., the two new transfers, receiver and tight-end. Noah Vaea @ MLB. Running backs Smith and Jackson. etc., etc.

All we really have is what is public knowledge. Jackson is a hamstring and is day to day with no time frame for returning. I haven't heard anything on Smith's injury. Grimes was waiting on a waiver from the NCAA and the TE transfer has to sit out due to having played last fall. I'm not sure what Vaea's situation is. There are also others who have missed a game or two and we will likely not hear why. It's just the way this season has and will go. Hopefully, we get back to normal this summer. :coffee:

Smith won't play this spring. Achilles I believe.

Even if Davis is ready to go this weekend I'd keep him out till the playoffs. Our other backs can pick up the slack more than enough.

Coach Hill was asked all of these questions on a news program a few days ago. He just said that these are issues that all teams go through and that it just seems a bit more due to the pandemic. His feelings are that you go with what you have and not to dwell on what you are missing.

Of course we will miss an injured or ill player, but we are fairly deep at most positions. Players will need to step up when their name is called. We will be fine. ISU is improved and so are many of the, previously thought of as lower, teams in the BSC. The way it stands right now, anyone can beat anyone. The small things make the difference. :coffee:

I’m assuming we’ll be without Josh today. McMillan can carry the load, he just can’t afford to put the ball on the ground. Idaho State has improved a lot this spring but they still can’t run the ball which puts a ton of pressure on their QB to carry the team. Hopefully we can turn him over a couple of times.

Offense needs to learn to not be their own enemies. Defense has really been pretty dominant lately. Game was way too close but the team pulled it out

4th straight title.

Also gotta give props to VanderWall from ISU. Kid was stiff as a board and looked to be in extreme pain and still came out and played. Enemy or no enemy thats worth a yo!

Congratulations to Weber State on an outright title! Offense needs to get it together. Weber State was lucky VanderWall missed most of the third quarter. Still 5-0...Big Sky Champs and FCS playoffs bound! 4 straight titles!

They’ll need to put it together to win in the playoffs. They play like last four weeks, and it will be a quick exit.

Having been a defensive player myself, I absolutely love how they are playing. Our O has been incosistent, but playing the kind of D we have seen over the past 5 games, keeps you in the game and gives you a chance in any game.

Who really knows how it might go in the playoffs. Every league has played in their own little bubble. I like our chances with the D we play.

It's likely that we will get at least one home game and possibly two. Hopefully, we can get everybody healthy for it.

Another positive is that it appears all of our seniors will be returning this fall. We could be even better. :notworthy:

I agree with you in that the Big Sky might just be really good this year. I think it is BS they have tried to hold Weber State accountable for close wins, but when NDSU has a close game with Northern Iowa, that’s okay...it’s the same story for the Colonial as it is with the MVFC...but somehow style points matter in the Big Sky? EWU was very close to losing at ISU and should have if the Bengals kept playing their game instead of trying to run out the clock. Other than Cal Poly, and the NAU/EWU game, every game was a dog fight separated by a play or two.

Regardless, the offense needs to clean up their mistakes, especially when they approach the red zone.

Never a better time than the playoffs to start playing your best football! It certainly won’t hurt to have a lot of experience winning close games and rallying when down.

Go Wildcats! Step it up in the playoffs!

Does anybody know how that fair catch was not a penalty? Everyone saw Shaheed call for the fair catch yet even though an ISU player intentionally hits him after there is no flag?

Also on the punt return that Shaheed did not call fair catch on after he was tackled, a 2nd ISU player came in and hit Shaheed late spearing him with his helmet. Also not called. I dont usually like to overly criticize officials but they have missed an abundant amount of calls and called some others that have been super sketchy. Not a good look for refs this spring.

I am with you in that I don’t want to blame everything on officials, but the hit on Shaheed was a clear safety issue. Calls that are missed that endanger health and safety need to be addressed by the conference.

The Bengals saw that the calls weren’t happening so they started to push the envelope. There were some missed holding calls with players pulling defenders down by the jersey and most of them right in front of the ref. The officials called a made field goal no good at Idaho, didn’t review a clear TD by McMillan at SUU, and missed that McMillan was down vs. NAU and called it a fumble...sure we can laugh about that now, but if the Hail Mary didn’t come through, that could have hurt the Wildcats tremendously.

Bottom line is the officiating is the worst I can remember and the conference needs to address it with training...or getting new officials...especially when they don’t call a personal foul on a player teeing off on a defenseless player who called for a fair catch.

I guess we have a choice. We can believe that the refs are really, really, really stupid or we can fear that they are dishonorable. It does seem to be beyond simple mistakes. I'm leaning toward stupidity. :coffee:
