vs. Portland State

Well, I was wrong about Weber State getting back on track. Instead got to see a prototypical Rahe team collapse at the end...and yet another last shot where no play was called and another bull rush into traffic with low chance of success.

It’s just tough to see the same thing over and over. I will probably go to a few games but just to get out of the house, that’s it. I fully expect Montana to win in Ogden by 10 plus. There is no confidence or swagger with this team...and that comes from coaching. No way they can win the Conference Tourney in my opinion.

On a positive note, pitchers and catchers report to Spring Training in two weeks!

Well Chex, the ST note means we just bonded.

We got out-hustled the whole 40 minutes. Giving up 19 offensive rebounds was pathetic. You kept hoping it wouldn't cost us, but PSU took 12 more shots than we did, and basically that was the game. I thought we might fix something at half, but it was worse in the second half. We shoot 50% and lose because the other team wanted to win more than we did. And I'm not used to watching Weber teams be so bad at shooting 3's.

On your "we can't win the Conference Tourney" note, we can sure look good at times. But we can't seem to look good with any degree of consistency. The talent is there to win it, but at this point I question the desire.

Yep, big Cubs fan, and I know you are a Pirates fan. One of the SW posters is a Cardinals fan, I know a Brewers fan, so I just need to find a Reds fan, and the NL Central is covered. It’s going to be the strongest division by far this year. The one team I thought had zero chance of winning it, the Reds, had a big offseason, so it will be up for grabs and a lot of fun to watch.

Admittedly, I was ticked last night. This is the second straight game of outshooting a team but losing due to turnovers or rebounds. This team has talent, but I don’t see a way this team can win three consecutive games in a row when they can’t put energy into a rested game at home. They seem to play better on the road, but a close game will get them tight down the stretch, so i don’t see it.

It seems like Hill has raised expectations that were nonexistent in football and now Rahe is lowering expectations of a proud basketball program. It’s just hard to watch. I’ll still support as I am a diehard and if I could suffer through the Cubs MANY bad years, this pales in comparison.

Hopefully the Wildcats can wake up in time for the Tournament.

I look at the status of basketball in the state of Utah and kind of shake my head. The U has the 8th highest-paid basketball coach in the country and suck about as bad as their whole conference -- which makes them a sad shadow of their historical selves. If anyone thinks Rahe is bad, take a look at Coach Klown and his $15 million buy-out. Only fools would give him that kind of money!

The Y gets blasted by 30 on their home court and show how far the gap between them and the Zags has grown. UVU looked pretty good against us and in the preseason, but quickly fell to the middle of the pack in conference. USU is hanging in there in the MWC and seems to be the best team in the state. But how good are they really?

This whole state used to be so good with in basketball. And this is a several year decline, not just this year.

The Central will be so tough and my cheap Buccos with their penny-pinching owner have not done much to get better. We'll see if we can improve on 82 wins. We do have a very good pitching staff. But can anyone hit? And where will the power come from? But like all baseball seasons for me, it should be fun!

By percentage of the total budget of the athletic department, Randy is not too far off coach K. We lack fundamental rebounding position. Look how many times Zach and Chapman are trying to rebound with superior athletism than solid position.

P5 and mid major salary structure is kind of apples and oranges don't you think? Don't know many U fans (and I'm surrounded by them in Davis County) who would say the Utes are getting as good of ROI from 80K as we are Coach Rahe. And given the U is 48th on the list of total athletic revenue and 80K is #8 for basketball coaches, I would still say it is an amazing overpay for a really crappy coach -- especially how long he was extended for which handicaps the U from dumping him (which most of their fans are demanding).

Your point on fundamental rebounding is curious given the fact that Chapman was having to fill the middle and try to alter shots -- ending up with 6 blocks. Which is why he was out of "solid position." It was our guards who failed at both keeping their assignments from getting to the rim, and blocking their assignments from crashing the boards. The majority of those offensive boards did not come from PSU interior players but from their guards and #3s. If you were there tonight I'm sure you noticed how both Barnes and Harding rebounded like madmen -- which we can assume came from getting their butts chewed out for their lackadaisical defensive positioning and rebounding on Thursday.
