Weber State has never faced a CAA team in the postseason, but it will be the Wildcats fourth foray into the postseason
in school history, including its second appearance in as many
years.
Weber State earned berths in 1987, 1991 and 2008.
In 1987, it defeated Idaho on the road, 59-30, then lost on
the road at Marshall, 51-23, in the quarterfinals. In 1991,
the Wildcats lost at Northern Iowa, 38-21, in the opening
round. Last year, the Wildcats went on the road and stunned
No. 3-ranked Cal Poly, 49-35, before losing at conference rival
Montana, 24-13, in the quarterfinals.
Teams currently in the Colonial Athletic Association
enter the post-season 5-5, all-time, against the current Big
Sky Conference lineup. The University of Montana is the
most-played opponent, with current CAA school’s holding a
4-3 all-time edge vs. the Grizzlies.

Weber State was founded originally as Weber Stake
Academy and was named after John Henry Weber, an early
local fur-trader.
The Wildcats
Weber State has one of the nation’s premier passing
attacks, as it averages 293.5 yds/game via the air. Junior
Carmen Higgins is the triggerman of the Wildcats aerial
assault, as he has thrown for 3,154 yards and 30 TDs on the
season. He has completed .647 of his passes (268 of 414)
and has 144.91 passing efficiency rating. His 30 TDs ties
him for the Big Sky Conference lead, while his 3,154 passing
yards ranks him third. He has also thrown a league high 16
INTs on the season, and has attempted fewer than 30 passes
only once this season (21 attempts in a 27-9 win at Northern
Arizona). For his career, Higgins is now second at Weber State in career passing yards with 9,595. His 83 career touchdown passes
are just four behind the WSU school record of 87 by Jamie Martin.
Higgins primary target is speedy speedy senior wideout Tim Toone. Toone is first in the Big Sky in receptions (77) and second
in both receiving yards (1,058) and receiving TDs (10). He comes into Saturday’s game against the Tribe with 200 career catches,
the second most in Weber State football history (and just six shy of the school’s career record - Trevor Shaw, 206). Toone’s 3,561
career-receiving yards are now the fourth best in Big Sky Conference history, while his 29-career touchdown receptions are a Weber
State school record.
The Wildcats’ ground game is keyed by senior tailback Trevyn Smith. He will come into Saturday’s game with 979 rushing
yards on the year (on 221 attempts) and seven touchdowns. He will graduate as on the most productive players in Weber State
history, as his 5,007 career rushing yards are already a school record (and the third best career total in Big Sky Conference history).
Smith’s 6,376 career all-purpose yards is a WSU school record and is the third most by a player in Big Sky Conference history.
Defensively, the squad boasts the Big Sky’s second stingiest unit that allows just 20.2 pts/game. Overall, the Wildcats are
yielding 372.9 yds/game in total offense (223.2 in the air/149.7 on the ground).
