Weber State football: Wildcats' program on the rise
http://www.deseretnews.com/article/705347043/Wildcats-program-on-the-rise.html

There is no information about the game on the Weber State site.

Its unbelievable and pretty amazing that W&M's coach is in his 30th season there!!

sounds like their loss to Richmond was almost as bad as ours with Colorado State.

Tribe Defense
• Ranks first nationally against the run (55.5 ypg)
• Ranks third nationally in total yards allowed (236.6 ypg)
• Ranks seventh nationally in scoring defense (13.8 ppg)
• Ranks second nationally in sacks (3.6 spg)
• Ranks sixth nationally in tackles for a loss (8.3 TFL pg)

When do we find out who the all-america team is? it looks like they had 4 preseason all-americans while we had hte nation's most with 7.

Did You Know?
Weber State has never faced a CAA team in the postseason, but it will be the Wildcats fourth foray into the postseason
in school history, including its second appearance in as many
years.
Weber State earned berths in 1987, 1991 and 2008.
In 1987, it defeated Idaho on the road, 59-30, then lost on
the road at Marshall, 51-23, in the quarterfinals. In 1991,
the Wildcats lost at Northern Iowa, 38-21, in the opening
round. Last year, the Wildcats went on the road and stunned
No. 3-ranked Cal Poly, 49-35, before losing at conference rival
Montana, 24-13, in the quarterfinals.
Teams currently in the Colonial Athletic Association
enter the post-season 5-5, all-time, against the current Big
Sky Conference lineup. The University of Montana is the
most-played opponent, with current CAA school’s holding a
4-3 all-time edge vs. the Grizzlies.

About Weber State University
Located in Ogden, Utah, Weber State (pronounced
Wee-ber) is a public university that has more than 23,000
students (full and part-time). It was founded in 1889 and
now offers more than 200 undergraduate degrees (the most
in the state of Utah). The Wildcats Athletics Department
features 13 total Division I programs and competes primarily
in the Big Sky Conference.

Did You Know?
Weber State was founded originally as Weber Stake
Academy and was named after John Henry Weber, an early
local fur-trader.

The Wildcats
Weber State has one of the nation’s premier passing
attacks, as it averages 293.5 yds/game via the air. Junior
Carmen Higgins is the triggerman of the Wildcats aerial
assault, as he has thrown for 3,154 yards and 30 TDs on the
season. He has completed .647 of his passes (268 of 414)
and has 144.91 passing efficiency rating. His 30 TDs ties
him for the Big Sky Conference lead, while his 3,154 passing
yards ranks him third. He has also thrown a league high 16
INTs on the season, and has attempted fewer than 30 passes
only once this season (21 attempts in a 27-9 win at Northern
Arizona). For his career, Higgins is now second at Weber State in career passing yards with 9,595. His 83 career touchdown passes
are just four behind the WSU school record of 87 by Jamie Martin.
Higgins primary target is speedy speedy senior wideout Tim Toone. Toone is first in the Big Sky in receptions (77) and second
in both receiving yards (1,058) and receiving TDs (10). He comes into Saturday’s game against the Tribe with 200 career catches,
the second most in Weber State football history (and just six shy of the school’s career record - Trevor Shaw, 206). Toone’s 3,561
career-receiving yards are now the fourth best in Big Sky Conference history, while his 29-career touchdown receptions are a Weber
State school record.
The Wildcats’ ground game is keyed by senior tailback Trevyn Smith. He will come into Saturday’s game with 979 rushing
yards on the year (on 221 attempts) and seven touchdowns. He will graduate as on the most productive players in Weber State
history, as his 5,007 career rushing yards are already a school record (and the third best career total in Big Sky Conference history).
Smith’s 6,376 career all-purpose yards is a WSU school record and is the third most by a player in Big Sky Conference history.
Defensively, the squad boasts the Big Sky’s second stingiest unit that allows just 20.2 pts/game. Overall, the Wildcats are
yielding 372.9 yds/game in total offense (223.2 in the air/149.7 on the ground).

Its kinda sad that I had to go the W&M site to learn the orgins of Weber State LOOOOOOOL!!!!!!!!

So that is why we are called Weber! I honestly didn't knw.

Most impressive stat even more so than the defense of W&M:

Student Interest
The Tribe’s first game of the season attracted more than 2,400 of the 5,800 person undergraduate class to Zable Stadium. The
Homecoming contest drew even a better number, as over 2,600 student-tickets were pre-distributed for the game. The team ended
the season with an average student attendance of better than 2,000 a contest.

Imagine if WSU had 50% of the students show up to a game!!!!! 12,000 LOOOOOOOL!!! I'd love to see 2,400 show up.

Tough to Score Against
W&M’s defense has been very tough to score against this season
and currently ranks seventh nationally by allowing just 13.8 points per
game. Only one Tribe opponent has scored more than 20 points this season
(Villanova - 28).
Since W&M began regularly playing 11-game schedules, the Tribe
has allowed less than 20 points per game eight other times. (The school
record for fewest points allowed per game is 3.7, which was set in 1931 -
nine-game schedule).
1. 13.8 - 2009
2. 13.9 - 1976
3. 14.6 - 1978
4. 16.5 - 1996
5. 16.7 - 1995
6. 18.5 - 1997
7. 18.6 - 1992
8. 19.0 - 1977
9. 19.1 - 1994

Since Higgins has been our starter which was the last 8 games of 2007, 14 games last yr, and 11 games this year we have had 6 games where we didn't score more than 20 points:

2007: L to Montana 18-10
2007: L to Eastern Wash 38-16
2008: L to Hawaii 36-17
2008: W Northern Colorado 17-10
2008: L to Montana 24-13 (FCS Quarterfinal)
2009: L to Montana 31-10

Scoring under Higgins:
2009: 338 pts, 11 games, 31 ppg
2008: 500 pts, 14 games, 36 ppg
2007: 268 pts, 8 games, 34 ppg

Higgins has started 33 games.

Higgins Highs:
20 pts or more: 26 times
30 pts or more: 17 times
40 pts or more: 11 times
50 pts or more: 4 times
60 pts ore more: 2 times
70 pts or more: 1 time

Of the 16 schools in the playoffs, Weber is 1st in enrollment size with over 23,000.
Of the 16 schools in the playoffs, Weber is 15th in average home game attendance with 6,500.
(Eastern Washington is 16th in average home game attendance with 5,366) :(

Wow!!! Thats embarrasing and pathetic. The Athletic Department should be really proud.

Very conventional offense and defense. I mean their playbook belongs in a museum, but they run it well. Solid front 4 but not as good as UW or CSU. athletic DBs but a bit sloppy on scheme execution. O-line is not real impressive but they move the ball and control the clock as good as anyone. But they don't score a lot of points so I assume their field goal kicker is relied heavily on. With Mutcher out I urge all of you to send all the positive vibes you can muster to Farabee and Timoteo this week. They gotta play a pretty good 3 technique. I'm sure the tribe is good, but so much of what I've read reminds me of NAU and Cal Poly last year. If we can establish a passing game and get those D-linemen in their lanes and focused on killing Higgins our running game is going to burst wide open.

Actually we have been dissapointed with our student attendence the past two games with about half the students showing up. Students at W&M are more likely to try and find the library then the will seek out Zable Std...kinda geeky .W&M just had another student recieve a Rhoades Scholarship this week. Our team ' s S.A.T scores are higher than most schools you will play against.

BTW we had a nice sunny day here and about the time your team arrived into Williamsburg ,a front blew in with hard rain and some sleet and the temps dropped....it came from the west... We were hoping for a nice 75 degree day with some good ole Va.humidity that could sap WSU energy....

Hope it is clean well officaited game and no one gets injured...
