Not to be a dick, but really? Why are we playing an NAIA school of 1500 students? Would it be too much to ask to get a home and home with a Seattle U or an Idaho? Also, I know it's a week night, but where's all the students? We can draw 10k+ for a football game, would be nice to get a couple thousand butts in the seats for a basketball game. Hopefully it will pick up a great deal once Big Sky play starts.

Sadly we have not created a culture of big crowds yet. It is getting better though. It usually does pick up during Big Sky play. As far as the NAIA school goes, maybe Hayford wants to build a few wins for the guys' confidence? This year's schedule is much easier than last years which I think will bode well for the long season. Who knows really. I have to trust Hayford, the team is getting better. :twocents:

Not to be a negative Nelly, but I'm not so sure that they are. Admittedly I'm not a huge BB fan (I used to, back in the day, way before I went to EWU), but Hayford hasn't earned my trust yet. I don't know if that makes me a bad fan, but in the two years he's been at EWU, his teams have a knack for looking like they're going to be really good, then shitting the bed with undisciplined play; lots of fouls, poor free throw shooting, and lack of depth. He seems to be a great recruiter (apparently he likes the international kids), and I like his philosophy, I just want to see his team be more consistent and disciplined throughout an entire season. The last two years we've shown glimpses of being a great team, only to prove that they're not. A good start to the season so far this year (albeit against easier competition than in the last two years), however I remain only cautiously optimistic.

On a side note, I remember the Stuckey years when we had big crowds at the BB games. Good times.

I agree with most of what you have to say. I think talent-wise, from what I have seen so far this team is more talented than the past couple of years. Venky and Harvey are obviously really good players that will score a lot of points, but we have a couple good new-comers as well. The Serbian kid and the JC transfer PG are really good players. One observation is that I think we lack depth with big players, and Seiferth gets in foul trouble a lot early. Also, we don't seem to go to our bench a lot (still trying to figure that one out). I'm not sure why Danny Powell hasn't seen the floor yet. I gotta think it's an injury or something.

On the radio broadcast last night at the Boston U game, Dennis Patchin said that Danny Powell was just cleared to play after having a concussion from the car accident he was in a couple weeks ago. Daniel Hill has not been playing because of some paperwork issue from last year that was identified as not being correct or complete.

I have confidence in coach Hayford as a recruiter and a coach. That win last night was against a good and experienced Boston U team. It will be interesting to see how they play against two good teams this weekend. UC Irvine is a huge team with three 7 footers, including a 7-6 freshman.

For what it's worth, we beat somebody called Long Island University, Brooklyn last night 102-70. They had it tape-delayed last night because of the football game, and we had a 28-1 lead in the first half. Granted, this was obviously not a very good team, but nice to see the team getting after it and burying teams we should. We'll play UC-Irvine at 4 PM tonight.

Disagree. LIU Brooklyn is a very good team. They lost by 1 to Indiana earlier this year. And made the NCAA tournament the last two seasons. Give the Eagles some credit! :D
