Walter Payton award finalists announced

Sweet!!!

Looking at the stats I hope that people look at Sam Houston's opponents that they played otherwise if you go just off stats he has it, but if you look at who they played and what they accomplished I think Gubrud gets it.

I'd suspect Kupp is the favorite, unless voters are apprehensive about giving it to him for a second year. If that's the case, my bet would be on Briscoe. I realize Gubrud's numbers have been terrific, but here may be a desire to see someone that isn't from Eastern win the award... given our guys have won three of them in the last decade.

As I recall from previous seasons, votes are cast at regular season end before playoffs start. Is that correct? If so what happens in the playoffs will not affect who wins.

This. And the fact that Briscoe actually has better numbers than Gubrud.

It's mostly a stats award. In 2013, Vernon Adams clearly had a better resume with a P5 win, but what's his face from E. Illinois won it with slightly better passing stats. Briscoe will probably win it, and that's a shame considering who he's put up those numbers against.

Kupp will win it. I'm not sure how they will be able to ignore the fact that he finished breaking every Division I receiving record this year.

Agreed, I think Kupp will run away with it but all three are deserving. It's incredible that we have two players on the finalist list.
