1. VA could have won it last year
2. Had an amazing game at UW to start the year
3. Beats a healthy Montana State at their place in the final moments with another amazing performance
4. Comes back early from a broken foot still in pain to help EWU beat Montana here in November
I can't imagine him not winning it after missing four games and then ending up on the list. Why would the committee put him and the other candidates through that? They are all three deserving but I think VA's been the best player in the country for two years straight and is the Payton award winner this year.

5. Played an entire half with a broken foot to lead his team to a win versus ISU.
Should be interesting...my gut tells me it's Robertson or Arias, but at the same time if you look at the 8 games VA played in, his per-game stats are better. He was also the runner-up last year...so I think he has an outside shot to win it, depending on how the voters feel about his missing 4 games.

It is hard to reconcile the fact that Vernon missed 1/3 of the season. Not his fault, but it certainly has to be considered.
MLEagle said:I think Vernon wins it. He has by far the most name recognition of any FCS player in the country. If this were FBS all the voters would be watching highlights of all the candidates and make more informed decisions. I doubt most of the voters have even seen highlights of most of these guys. So, they will either vote straight from the stats or based on who they know. They know VA.
Besides, if Vernon missing 4 games was a big deal he would have never made the top 3. Vernon Adams will be EWU's 3rd Payton Award winner this year, and he will win his second in a row in 2015.
