Wanless Sideline Interview

Did anyone see the sideline interview on Comcast?

The interviewer Christine Nubla asked him about all of the good things going on at Sac- You have a new field? Wanless talked about the ProTurf, the Well, the Weight room, the coaches offices, all the positive changes. Then she asked about how he felt playing Stanford. Wanless then said it was good for our fans, good for the players to experience playing them, etc. And THEN he went completely off the reservation saying that the fans need to see the reality of what happens when you play football at this level. The players are faster, bigger and it takes more to be competitive at this level.

Seemed like a pretty big telegraph to me against the next level. Thoughts?

While wanless has done some good things he seems to not have a lot of respect for our program and where we are going. Everyone knows that a pac 10 team is gonna be bigger than a 1aa team he doesn't need to put the fans down like that. Plus I'm still a little disappointed on applying for the other ad job trying to jump ship in the middle of some great growth

If Wanless wants to know what I saw, it was a 1-AA program playing better than many 1-A programs in the same situation. How many lowly 1-A programs have we seen today perform much worse with better recruiting tools in the same situation. Ok, Stanford is no Alabama, but they are an emerging power in the juggernaut that is the Pac 10/12. If we were a 1-A program we would get bigger guys and not be passed up for Fresno, Nevada, SJSU and others. We could have made it a competitive game.

Yeah, it’s a reality we will get smacked time to time if we were a WAC school going up against good Pac 10/12 and SEC schools, but we would also generate a whole lot more interest in the program. If you were a potential recruit and you were told you could play against teams like Utah State (who gave OK State a scare today), Hawaii and Alabama or Northern Colorado, Eastern Washington and Idaho State, which would you choose? 1-AA, especially in talent rich-1-A saturated California, gets the scraps I’m sorry to say. Not that our guys aren’t worthy, but lets face it, we aren’t getting the top recruits.

I'm sorry fellas. I just didn't take it that way. I saw the whole conversation and it seemed to me that he was just pointing out differences between us and that level and the improvements we've made, nothing more.

I don't think he was bashing the fans just saying that there are realities that we don't notice.
We need to see both sides of the fence so to speak.

By the way who wouldn't apply for the Georgia Ad job.........think about it.
