Watching Illinois State...

... One week after watching our D get shredded on EVERY drive, New Hampshire holds them to 6 points in the first half. Interestingly, they look a little turnover prone when you get physical with them.

I like the look of UNH's DL. They lock it down up front.

It's evident we really need to upgrade our D talent... I have to think we need to go the transfer route this season . As of now, I guess these would be the projections:

CB: Wadood, Gamboa, Tucker and Cange, with Hoffman and Webster also available. Probably the most returning talent is at corner, but very little experience.

S: Bruce and Tonani? It would really be nice to get a ready-made safety somewhere.

LB: as rough a year as we had, it's hard to believe we lose a lot here. I guess Gall has really impressed, and Zamora and Havili are back. We need to improve dramatically at LB before next season.

DE: if Day opts to come back, that will help with an upperclassman DE. Probably him and Ebukam with Saugen. It would still be nice to have another ready-made come in this year.

DT: scary thin. Sommer and Lino, maybe? I've heard Jordan is impressing, but that's a lot to ask a frosh. A few fringe guys return, but a transfer would really help. Desperately need one of these young guys to develop into a superstar, maybe Tiuli?

I seem to remember hearing that Tonani may be done with football due to the concussion issues - don't hold me to that but, if so, it only adds to what was said about being thin at positions.

Raynes at safety?

Pulu at DT?

Regardless, I agree we might need to go the transfer, CC route.

I think the coaches are going to have to scrap their current defensive philosophy. This is more than a player issue. I have a feeling you could take the players we have on defense and put them in North Dakota State's or Illinois State's defense and they would have had the same success shutting down teams.

Looking at next year, I see Dylan Donahue and Sommers as the starting DT's. Donahue reminds me of Tyler Jolly. I can't believe he was not a scholarship player. Patiole Pesefea and Jay-Tee Tiuli will need a solid year of conditioning and weights, if they get after it they will be a force. EWU needs to add some size at DE, tough to win the line of scrimmage when your DE's weigh 210-220 pounds. Hopefully Jonah Jordan will be in the mix at DE, he has the size and seems athletic for a big guy. Lino is another player that should be at DE, he has the right size and after watching him pancake the Montana guard he looks to be pretty aggressive.

The LB's should be fine. Gall should be an All American type, he seems to have some speed which is really needed. Kreifels will be in the mix as well. I wouldn't mind seeing Bauman moved to LB,he has the size and looks to have some speed as well.

The CB's should be good with Wadood and Gamboa as starters. Hoffman, Tucker, Cange. Webster and Asan Neil Evergen in the mix.

Safety looks thin but Raynes, Weatheroy, Bruce are back along with what looks like some talented freshman.

I'm sure there will be some new faces in the mix and if the recruiting goes well we'll probably see some more freshman in the mix, that's the way it is in FCS.

But the key is they need to look at a different scheme and get more physical on the DL.

I think we have a couple of up and comers on the DL, but agree that we sorely missed the two Seniors that graduated last season (especially Jordan Pulu). I think it's worth entertaining a transfer at DT/NT should the right opportunity present itself. We have size, it's just that group as a whole is pretty young. I think we're fine at both DE positions going into next season, especially if Day returns.

To me, LB is a bigger concern. Just not a lot of experience there. Havili and Zamora have a decent amount, but beyond that I think Gall has played some, but mostly on special teams. Gall, Kreifels, and Kacmarcik should be good players.

With the schedule we have at the beginning of the year we will find out real quick. I just hope the guys confidence doesn't get shattered if things go south as that is a brutal schedule we have to start off.

I see people mentioning the defense, but I wonder if our offense will be as good. Jake Rodgers, Jase Butorac, and Forte are huge losses.

I think the offense will be explosive once again. We need size and speed on the d-line. I know Renard Williams's don't grow on trees, but we need some beef to plug the middle.

97 Kaleb Levao DL 6-3 290 Fr. HS
96 Patiole Pesefea DL 6-2 280 Fr. HS
77 Jay-Tee Tiuli DL 6-4 315 Fr. HS
94 Matthew Sommer DL 6-5 310 So. 1L
67 Dylan Donohue DL 6-1 285 Fr. HS
99 Jordan Pulu DL 6-2 280 So. 1L*

I don't think size in the middle is the problem...experience is. Some of these dudes are going to get bigger, too.

EWURanger,
All those names you mentioned on "D", I just hope they all come back. We normally lose some Players while team is away from FB. Delete Jordan Pulu, he quit the team earlier this year after he separated his shoulder. Remember talking to Jordan while home healing his shoulder, he stated he was quitting FB, he was worried about his health. Just hope he and his brother Andru graduate. That degree is the best thing for anyone going to College. Hoping their younger Brother Jared come to play here. Andru told me Jared was 4 point student, and was hoping for a trip to Stanford. Told Andru, maybe Jared would like to follow his two older brothers to play on the Red Turf. NOTE: Watch #97 Kaleb Levoe, and #67 Dylan Donahue, they are going to be some great Defensive Players. Can't wait for February 2015, (Recruits Committing). I noticed some more outstanding Players in this group. They RS this year:clap: Clue you in soon.    Vic Wallace
