Weber chokes, Griz advance

Weber misses two free throws when either one would have locked down the game. Montana gets a foul and hits two free throws to force OT.

High 70% foul shooter and missed them both? Ugh. Either one goes down and I'm pretty sure that game's over in regulation.

Attendance looked weak for a tournament home team tonight.

Crowd was loud but to be honest I was VERY disappointed with there being under 4k. Official attendance was 3,938. I realize it was a 1 vs 8 but FFS it was Weber. A Griz vs Weber tournament game is almost always a hell of a game. As usual they have loads of talent. If they actually start clicking as a team next year with that talent they'll be right back up near the top of the Big Sky.

I think this new tournament format with 8 teams (causing 3 games in a row for the hosting team if they go all the way) kept quite a few people away for the first round. Many (who need to be slapped upside the damn head) probably assumed the first round would be a walk in the park for a 1 vs 8 and just planned on attending the Friday and Saturday games.

Looking back at the last 2 times the Griz hosted we had 5500+ for the first game, against you guys in 2011-2012 after the bye, then 7000+ against Weber for the championship game that year. The year after it was 6900+ for the UNC game followed by 7100+ for the championship game against Weber. So the Friday and Saturday (if the Griz make it past NAU) should be well attended.

Even with the change to the tournament format though with a possible 3 games in a row, 3,938 for a tournament game is quite disappointing. I'm guessing it'll be well over 5000 tomorrow though (hopefully over 6000) and if the Griz are in the championship around 7000 like usual.

I'll be at both games tomorrow of course. Looking forward to seeing you guys against Sac. Hoping for 10 overtimes in that game with Sac winning at the buzzer in the 10th :P

That's fair, I wouldn't want to play EWU either. I was rooting hardcore for Weber last night, but as usual they choked. Here is hoping NAU at least pushes the Griz a little. I don't see it happening though. NAU will get steam rolled and Montana will glide into the championship game. Just hope EWU can do the same.
