WEber Fans

When ISU came to the Dee, they had about 8 fans in the building; all of which, I'm sure were family of players. I'm not sure how many WEber fans we had tonight in Pokey, but I could hear multiple chants on BigSky TV about vegetables used to make French fries and "defense Weber defense" just as loud or louder than any chants I heard from ISU fans/students. Great job!

Yes, we have issues, mainly related to the location of the student section and it's population from time to time, but we consistently destroy all others in the conference in basketball attendance and probably out attend half of the "major conference" teams in the nation. Being back and forth from Chicago, and attending WEber games for a while now as well as games out here, I can tell you that none of the half dozen D-1 school in the Chicago area, including a BigTen and BigEast team, have quite the atmosphere we have. (I must confess I haven't gone to a Loyola or Chicago State game but plan on attending UVU@ChicagoState and WichitaState@Loyola) None I have been to have a Super.Awesome.T.O.G. that I have seen. I for one, would way rather listen to him give out pizzas than sit through the 4th annoying TV timeout in a half with no entertainment at all. Also, our new Waldo has to be one of the baddest most athletic and entertaining mascots in the nation! Wow, what a turnaround from the old one.

Are we perfect? no! But everyone from students, alumni and community fans to the promoters and in game organizers are killing it right now and deserves credit for helping build such a great program which is worthy of the quality coaches we have and high level talent we have been recruiting. It's not by accident that we continue to see attendance increases every year.

:thumb: It could be much much worse. We should be very grateful for what we have!

I agree. We have it great but it would be nice for.more students to show up.

I saw a ranked Arizona team play at Stanford. I had to leave at halftime it was so lame and also I felt my time was better utilized watching bigskytv. Stanford is 7k arena version of Sac St or SJSU. The. Only good crowd I've seen is at St Marys but they play in a high school gym. The only college here that compares to utah colleges is Cal and I've only been once, vs Weber and school was out in December. So their a maybe.

Weber is a basketball school. We love out hoops here. I love Weber State Hoops!! I'm only excited for winter because it is hoops season. It would be great to see more students, but even if the students are lazy and wont come out, attendance continues to climb.

I agree with this. The only thing that i wonder about is our average attendance if students would actually show up. 8,000+?

I think that our student section has been great and growing all year long. Lets hope that some of it can carry over to next year. :thumb: :thumb:

An older Weber fan pulled me aside and asked if we chartered a bus for the students up to Pocatello. I said no most of those guys giving Idaho State the biz haven't been students for 5 - 10 years. He said, "well they used to charter a bus for the students".

I think there is the perception that the student organizations do more than they really do. 3 or 4 student super fans are doing all of the work. We do have it pretty good, but we should. We have the richest tradition, the highest paid coach, the nicest facilities, the best recruiting, and the best atmosphere in the conference.

I don't think it is too much to ask to improve our in game promotions and the audio on our broadcast. Many of the same fans that have been on this board making suggestions for improvements are the ones that made the trip to Pokey and represented our school loud and proud. We love this program. We know we have it it good, but there can always be improvements and advancements.

The administration has had the wool pulled over their eyes far too long. WSUSA and SAA have done absolutely nothing for the past three years. WSUSA hasn't done much since Peter was president and that was almost a decade ago. Student leaders and most importantly, advisers are never held accountable. Any student receiving a scholarship should be responsible and in my opinion, should be honest and pay back their scholarships, since they don't do anything; especially lead.

Administration can't say that ISU, with their new ticket prices $17 for a crap game, is affecting a student bus. But, really, what is Tingey thinking?? Yet with a little imagination and know how, you can find that ISU does do group rates for groups of 10 or more. An adviser, who is thinking, could get a deal and a lot of tickets. That is what Bev Rudd would do. She would drive to ISU and pick up group tickets for $5 each to make a student bus possible. I can't remember a year when the student bus wasn't full. Actually, a player once confided to me that he felt one reason why the team was able to pull out a multiple OT game was because of the number of students at the game.

The only other students at the game were soccer players who were sitting in the middle of a pack of belligerent ISU football players right behind our bench.

Anyway, since athletics reads this...maybe it is time to start a true student organization run by athletics. Even UVU has one. No excuse that there weren't at least 50 students at any close away game this season. 25 more students on Monday would have made our crowd louder than the Bengal faithful. We have the potential but no leadership. Alumni is an embarrassment...

Tal,
You are forgetting about the awesome wristband idea last year. I think that actually killed momentum in our student section. For the most part, the students are still riding the momentum of successful organization heads of the past. What happens once Kilty and Maddawg move on? Who is in the wings ready to move it forward?
