Weber St. - Senior Day

My guess is that Hayford will start Kyle Reid today being it's senior day. I can't remember if he's let all seniors start in the past on senior day but this is the perfect opportunity to give Reid some serious minutes. He has had a great attitude since he has come to EWU (even with limited minutes). Hope Hayford let's our youth play a ton today to help them gain some much needed experience. Also hoping he let's Harrell rest his injury so he's ready to go on Tuesday. It would be nice to see Gibson, Henderson, Ferris and Benzel some serious minutes today. Not so much worried about the resting our players side of things as I am seeing our bench players gain valuable experience. The rest for our starters would be nice though since we are going to play 4 games next week  !

My guess is all three seniors start, but Jois and McBroom play very limited minutes. I wouldn't be surprised if Harrell doesn't suit up. We should see a lot of freshman get a lot of minutes today. WOuld be nice to send the seniors off with a win, but much more importantly, would be nice to let our starters get some rest for a big week next week.

Ya, Bolomboy is the real deal. He is off to the NBA next year according to Hayford and a lot of everyone else. Great stat-line tonight. 6 for 9 including 2-2 from behind the arc. 12 - 15 free throws and 11 boards. But clutch is what separates that guy. Loved it when Venky threw-it-down hard on him. Just posterized him! Nobody else in the Big Sky but Venky could have done that.

Proud of our fans today that made the trip today. I was there and it looked pretty filled up and it was loud. What a great atmosphere for basketball. Really wish Hayford would have gone for the quick 2 points with 15 seconds left in the game. Instead we let the clock run down to under 5 seconds then they fouled us like any smart team would have done. IMO you have to take it hard to the hole there with 12 seconds left and get the layup with the chance of an "and 1." Even with Bolomboy down there I think you take it hard....if the drive isn't there, kick it to the wing for a three.

Loved how we played more bench guys and put on the full-court-trap almost the whole game. That gave us a whole new dimension on defense that I haven't seen all year. I thought it rattled Weber and it just made us more tough-nosed. We will need to be tough-nosed next week. The eags team that showed up today showed me that we can win the whole thing next week. Hats off to Weber though. They hit a tough shot in the clutch to win it. We've got a bitter taste in our mouth now. That might give us the edge and the chip on our shoulder that we'll need next week.

Can't wait for next week!

Best effort I've seen from our guys all season. Take that into the tourney and we'll be fine. 2 of 3 refs were absolutely terrible. Crowd was great. Thank you seniors. The bench is now ready for Reno.

Ya, I didn't see any drop off when our bench players played, and they played A LOT more today. I actually thought it made us better and more dangerous because we seemed fresher the whole game. We didn't need to worry about foul trouble as much because of more bench play and that allowed us to be more aggressive defensively. More aggressive defensively is what is going to take us to the Dance.

Looking forward to next week. I was really pleased with the press and the overall effort. Really unpleased with horrible referees. That yell leader needs to get an award. Shows you how much the ref was concentrating on the game when he was so sensitive that a cheerleader got under his skin.

I'm wondering what the outcome would have been if Hayford and Venky didn't get T'd-up within 30 seconds of each other. That cost us 4 points at the free throw line and 2 possessions. That's 8 points.

I have to wonder how the year would have been if we had played some defense earlier this season.
I have felt all year that our lack of D had do with how many guys were in our rotation. We had a very tight rotation all year without much bench play. It was almost like we were playing hands off D just so one of our starters wouldn't foul out. I really believe that was a huge reason why there was so many easy buckets this year. I didn't see that today at all. We need to play our bench and it will take the pressure off our starters on D. Today was a perfect example. While it wasn't perfect defense, it was much better effort today and we were more disruptive. It was good enough to beat the #1 seed in the Big Sky without even having a great day on offense. I didn't think there was any drop off today when we played our bench. And that was with WAVES of freshman subbing at a time. It seemed like Hayford was subbing 3 and sometime 5 guys at a time every few minutes. We can win the whole thing in Reno if we play with the defensive effort that we played with today. If our offense heats up down there its curtains.
