Weber State football program under investigation

Roy Burton is searching for the lime light... He needs to begin writing more good articles about the team/university than bad. Roy is beginning to tick me off. I think he wished he was the beat writer at Notre Dame or Penn St. Seriously though, the Standard needs a new writer.

While Roy is worried about an I-pod theft case, and trying to get himself a promo, thinking he is writing the story of a decade," Jim writes this nice piece on Tony Epperson. http://www.standard.net/stories/2013/08/14/wsus-epperson-does-it-all-will-stick-kicking-now" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

I am not too worried about this i-pod case or academic math deal... Roy needs to take a hike......

Interesting that Gueck has changed his story in four days. I-pod gate has turned out to being a huge dead end. Roy's story from the weekend was fairly damaging for the team and for coach Sears reputation. As a journalist he has a responsibility to be accurate with his reporting and be fair to both sides of an issue. He painted the football team in a really bad light and made Sears and his staff out to be lyers and abusers of power. Now Gueck is changing his story and his claims. But the damage is done.

As for the math scandal. The NCAA needs to realize that YES, there was a lack of institutional control at the end of 2011 and throughout the majority of 2012. The team went through three different coaches for hell's sake, and regrettably from what I have heard these stem from issues as far back as 2010 or even 2009; these are unsubstantiated dates. It is just what I have heard. Could be a reason behind why Mac was let out to pasture so quickly in 2011.

I hate to go to Roy's defense but, when you get told by the athletic department that we are going to handle this like a family and no one is going to comment on what was said to the players. He couldn't get both sides of the story. The coach's and administration needed to step up and explain the situation from day one. A coach stole from a player. That doesn't happen every day and is news. In todays media, information is going to get out, but if you address it before it hits social media, you may be able to save some credibility. This is a major fail by the staff and the administration.

The rest of the roster is just as unsettled — it could see even more changes as Weber State awaits the results of an NCAA investigation into academic issues dating back to past seasons. That could put a handful of players’ eligibility for the season in jeopardy, while others wait to see if they will be done for the entire year or if they can be reinstated at some point, say sources who are familiar with the situation.

Freak, I guess we will all know which players are on The NCAA watch list this Saturday. I just hope it isn't any of our lineman. We can ill afford to lose any offensive or defensive lineman. Past seasons? How long had this been going on?

Maybe they'll just receive Manziel type half game suspensions. But seriously, with the schedule and possible coming suspensions, this season could turn into a train wreck real quick.
