Weber State Great: Brad Barton

Our prayers go out to Brad's family he will be missed by many, may they find comfort in this time of sorrow. Thanks Brad for your strength and leadership on and off the court.

I was totally shocked to read this in the newspaper this morning. Brad was a good player and a much better person. Prayers go out to his family and friends.

I am a huge fan of Brad Barton. He had such a passion for life and it rubbed off on everyone around him. As a fan, I admired his his big motor. There was no quit in that man. If every Wildcat had his heart, we would never lose a game. He was not the most tallented player on the floor, but he was usually the most effective. And, he always had a big, cheese eating, grin on his face. The world is poorer for his loss.

Shocking loss. Brad was one of my favorite players to watch. He was clutch, hard-nosed, and an excellent defender. I wish I had video on these plays, but the last second 3 he hit against USU to preserve a WSU victory and the strip of Hester, and immediate 3 that allowed the Cats to take the lead against EWU, in Cheney, that assured Weber of an undefeated season. However, off the court he was one of the nicest guys you would meet. Many times, at the Pie, Brad would come over and chill with the fans.

My prayers and heart felt sorrow go out to the Barton family. Thank you for sharing your son with us. We truly lost a Weber State great.

Brad was an awesome guy. I can't believe this. I last talked to him about a year or so ago in Orem. He was with his team passing through to or from a game. He was always very friendly and I will never forget that buzzer shot to beat USU in 2001-02 at the Dee.

Cravens was right about Brad being the heart and soul of that 16-0 2003 team. In early November 2002, the team had a seniors only meeting at my house. I lived with a couple of the players. I happen to come home during the meeting so I just pretended to go to my room but stood in the kitchen listening the to meeting which included Brad, Tal, Jermaine, Stevey, Stephan, Pat & Marlon. They talked about how this was the year, teams better be afraid of them on the court. I was pretty excited and they did it, 26-6 and 16-0. Second most wins in school history. All the players including Brad signed their own player cards that WSU used to make. We had them hanging up in the house. I still have all of them.

I wish I could be there for the viewing. I read it will be at the Dee Events Center.

Here's a great column from the Standard-Examiner, remembering Brad's attitude on the court and off. It won't be in the paper until tomorrow morning, but I thought I'd get it up online and share it now.

Awesome!!

I will be paying my respects to Brad on Sat. I think it would be good if there was a good number of Weber State fans in attendance to show our appreciation for the way he lived life.
