Weber State Hosting a Round of the Big Dance

So what would it take for Weber to host a round of the NCAA tourney? They have done it before, but it's been a while. Didn't Jason Kidd play in Ogden the last time we hosted a round? It just seems like with the newfound tourist attention Ogden is getting and the great improvements to downtowm that both Ogden City and Weber State would want this to happen on a semi-regular basis. If Boise and Spokane (I went to their arena in 2003 and it is pretty comparable to the Dee) can host a round than so should Ogden, right?

What does everybody think?

One thing I forgot- It seems like the conference would want this to happen too, wouldn't they?

If I remember correctly, one of the criteria for hosting games is that the facility has to have a large media type hall that is the same building as the arena. I don't think the Dee has a room that satisfies the size requirement. In past seasons where Weber hosted, that was not yet a requirement.

The DEC doesn't hold enough people to host anymore. If memory serves me correctly, the NCAA adjusted the minimum up to 15k and the Dee's capacity is 12.5k.

Big Sky commish on committee
OGDEN — Big Sky Conference Commissioner Doug Fullerton has been appointed to serve on the men’s basketball committee, the NCAA recently announced.
Fullerton is the first Big Sky Conference commissioner or athletics director selected to serve on the 10-person committee, which selects the 65-team tournament field and decides future tournament sites.
“Serving on this committee is something that I’ve been interested in for several years,’’ Fullerton said. “I realize it will be a timeconsuming process, but I’m looking forward to the challenge of working on this prestigious team.’’
Fullerton will start a fiveyear term on Sept. 1. He is one of three people recently selected to serve, joining Big 12 Commissioner Dan Beebe and Ronald Wellman of Wake Forest University. The trio will replace outgoing committee members Chris Hill of Utah, Mike Slive of the SEC and Tom O’Connor of George Mason.

This is really big for the conference, by the way.

Now, it says that he will help decide future tourney sites. C'mon Doug!!! Does this mean that Weber could actually host? Nobody else in the conference has the facility that Weber does. This needs to happen for basketball fans in the area and also for some positive exposure for Ogden. Does anybody know Mr. Fullerton's e-mail address so we can ask him what it would take for this to happen at Weber State?
