The Weber State Wildcats and Montana Grizzlies can start making postseason plans. Both teams clinched spots in the Big Sky Conference men's basketball tournament with victories on Thursday night.
First-place Weber State won its seventh straight game, downing Eastern Washington 74-57 in Ogden. The Wildcats moved to 10-1 in conference play heading into Saturday's game against Portland State.
Steve Panos scored 22 points and pulled down seven rebounds for the Wildcats. Daviin Davis netted 19 off the bench, and true freshman Damian Lillard added 15.
Montana won its sixth straight game and moved to 9-3 with a 60-48 road win at Sacramento State. Juinor guard Anthony Johnson scored 24 points to lead Montana. Senior Kyle Sharp added 14 points and 10 rebounds.
Idaho State kept Portland State from clinching a spot in the tournament with a 78-69 home win over the Vikings. Portland State dropped to 8-4 in conference, three games behind Weber State. Senior guard Matt Stucki scored 25 points with seven rebounds and four assists for ISU. Stucki scored his 1,000th career point with his seventh point Thursday.
Northern Arizona pulled out an 83-64 win over Montana State despite playing with just eight players. Senior guard Josh Wilson broke a bone in his foot last week, and is not expected back. NAU sophomore Cameron Jones had 22 points and eight assists. Senior Jermaine Bishop scored nine points and dished out 10 assists.
Northern Colorado beat North Dakota 80-72 in a non-conference game. Will Figures scored 20 points, and sophomore Devon Beitzel hit five 3-pointers, finishing with 15 points and five assists.
Four more league games will be played on Saturday. Eastern Washington meets Idaho State at 4:30 p.m. Mountain in the Altitude Game of the Week.
At 5 p.m. Mountain, Montana takes on Northern Arizona in a game that will be televised live on Fox Sports Arizona.
Weber State meets Portland State in Ogden at 7 p.m. Mountain. Sacramento State plays host to Montana State at 7 p.m. Pacific.
