Weber State @ Portland State Thread

Did your team give the game way like ours did. Our QB Higgins had 4 turnovers, 3 picks and dropped a option pitch. Lets see if either of our teams want to win next week.

It was like we didn't want to play any more, we had a convincing lead and then ISU recovered 2 fumbles, both were taken to the house, and it was all down hill from there. This is becoming one depressing season.

The cats D looked great again this week. THey got caught on a trick play at the end where NAU ran out of the Wishbone. Higgins threw one pick that was returned fo a TD, so there is 14 of the 29 points. I do nt understand why they went to Conway on 4th and 1 at the end of the game for the first down when Smith had played so good all day.
Bring on Portland State as long as it is raining or snowing at PSU.

BTW Conway did not play against NAU. They went with Lee. The reason they went with Lee is because Smith was hurting. He has a bad shoulder that will require off-season surgery. If you noticed, he came off the field a number of times holding his arm limp. The problem on the 4th and 1 play was that the Tight-end did not block the right way. He was supposed to block his guy outside, but blocked him inside where the hole was supposed to be. If you all get a chance, there is a coaches lunch @ Ligori's every Monday @11:30am. At that lunch you get reports from all the coaches. They breakdown the previous week's games, matches, races, etc. They also give insight into what is coming up during the week. It is a great time, and very informitive.

I would love to go to the luncheon, but I work in SL. Maybe when I am rich and famous... My question is on the play calling. It bothered me that on several 3 down plays where we needed 4-7 yards that the play was a post or long pass down the field 20-30 yards. Why not get the dang 1st down and try that play on 1st or 2nd. Higgins just hasn't shown the touch (like last year all over again) leading his receivers on these long passes. It seems to me that the offensive coordinator needs to put his QB in a position to make plays. Higgins seems to be the most comfortable running the option (loved his TD run) short passes to the flats, crossing patterns, screen passes, should all be the bread and butter of the offense (besides watching Trevyn Smith run crazy over the "D"). I am totally fine with taking a shot or two down the field but not every 3 down. Aaah, feels good to get that off my chest.
WSU 21
PSU 17

Thanks, wsucatfan, I am glad you feel better. I agree with you. I hope that the D line comes out really agressive on Saturday. If they can get to the QB, it will be a win for the Cats. I am guessing that practice has not been very fun for the defense this week. The linebackers played like girls against NAU. Higgins will never have the touch on long passes. If you notice, all of his long passes are a little underthrown and wobble like a dead duck because he does not have the arm strength. I am heading up to the game in Portland - anybody else going up?

I see PSU's QB getting knocked around all day, it's hard to throw when you are on your back. WSU 28
PSU 14
This is of course assuming we just hand the ball off all day and let Trevyn and co. run wild.
And for the love, don't throw more than 5 times in this game.

I've got to imagine Eteuati is going to be VERY fast playing on that carpet up at PSU. I predict he takes a kickoff or a punt to the house.

Did anyone see this coming, 73-62 and the game is not over (3 min left Portland just tried an onside kick). What a barn burner, all sorts of records are falling. It will be interesting to see what Mac has to say after the game. Why couldn't this game have been played in O-town, what a game this would have been to be at. Anyone that went to the game give us a idea how the atmosphere was up there.

Final 73-68 a new I-AA record!

What exactly happened? How is this possible? Our highest point total was 26 points before this game. U gotta feel bad for PSU scoring 68 and losing!

So I take it Portland St is a passing team, 56 pass attempts and 10 rushes! "Reggie Bush" Eteuati had 341 all-purpose yards vs the Vikings!

Congrats to UNC for their first ever Big Sky win. MSU was not the team I was expecting to be the first victim.

:o HOLY CRAP!!! Where did that come from? That must have been an amazing game to watch. I would have never guessed that kind of offensive explosion from us. GO WILDCATS!!!

WSU'S Higgins shared the conference Offensive player of the week.
Eteuati also shared the special teams award. What a load of CRAP! They should just name that award after Eteuati.

Ya, normally 341 all-purpose yards is good for one player!

The game @ Portland was CRAZY!!!! While my wife and I were watching, we thought that who ever had the ball last would win. The bad part of the game was that the D line could not put enough pressure on their QB. He was working out of the shotgun almost the whole game, and they were sending 5-6 receivers out on every play. Their running game is non existant. At the beginning of the 3rd qtr there were 3 thouchdowns scored within 31/2 min. It was fun to watch Eteuati run a punt back, and he almost took a kick-off return to the house. He was tackled around the 3 yrd line.
