Weber State versus Utah State matchups and prediction

Its Weber State basketball Eve!! First off is the Aggies of USU. We are due to beat them. After their loss to a D2 team and Collette leaving, it makes you wonder about the state of this team. Even without Collette, they still have good players who can hurt us. So lets look at the matchups.
1. Senglin vs. Perkins. Advantage WEBER STATE. Perkins is a solid player, but Jeremy is better.

2. Richardson vs. Pearre. Advantage EVEN. They are both Sophmores and their stats are very close.

3. Baker vs. Smith. Advantage UTAH STATE. I'm only basing this on the fact Smith has played D1 and was very solid and Dusty has never played. This will be a good match up to watch. I like Gittens here as well to guard Smith.

4. Moore vs. Bolomboy. Advantage EVEN. Not sure if they will ever guard each other. Moore is very very good. Two totally different styles of play. I will say this though without Collette, I think Weber State has a huge advantage in the post now. Weber State should dominate the rebounding.

5. Braxton vs. Jones. I have no idea, but I remember watching Jones last year and thought he was slow and fat and not good. Braxton has never played a D1 game, but just looking at them you would have to give the edge to Braxton. Will be interesting to see this match up as well.

Bench. Cannon, Gittens, Hill. Vs. Who the hell knows? The fact that Gittens and HIll were starters last year and Cannon looks very solid, its got to be huge advantage WEBER STATE.

So I'm factoring the loss to a D2 game for the Aggies, loss of Collette at a very strange time, Weber is much better than last year, and Weber is pissed about the game last year. I'm going to make my best un biased prediction at WEBER STATE 74 USU 66. The difference is USU will have no answer for Bolomboy in the post. I think he has a huge game. Go WEBER!!!!!!

Hope you're correct..."unbiased"?...I still detect a little purple dye in there...Aggies are a experienced, balanced team, even without Collette...today's SE article on the game quotes Coach Rahe with a definite "leery"(?) outlook. But again, maybe Coach is preparing & cautioning the fan's expectations. Also a interesting article interviewing Rahe again on the difficulties of scheduling home BB games. :coffee:

My WAG> Aggies by 10.

I like the analysis. I'm not sure I agree that "Weber is much better than last year, and Weber is pissed about the game last year." I hope they are much better but I haven't seen anything yet that makes me believe it. Also, I'm not sure how much I buy into the being "pissed" and revenge aspect, especially with Rahe's approach to in-state games. Maybe now that his mentor isn't on the other bench, he'll have a little more fire about beating the blue bulls.

I think (or hope) if Weber can put over 70 points on the board that they will have a good chance to get the W. I was at the Spectrum last year and I don't believe I have ever witnessed such a tremendous swing of dominance by one team to being completely and totally ass-whipped by the other team in the two halves, and I was at both BSC playoff meltdowns to MSU and UM. Different coach and different teams, I know, but I still have nightmares about a similar thing happening since Rahe hasn't necessarily been a model of correcting things such as attacking a zone, in-bounding, and a few other difficulties that have faced the 'Cats.

For those with the trivia bug like me...last win by Wildcats over Aggies, 4 yrs ago @ DEC 73-63 (Scotty B. went off for 28 pts). Aggies hold the overall series lead 41-26 (WOW - 67 matches).

But I know, it's all about the present...Wildcats are overdue for a rare win vs USU!!! :coffee:

i cant believe that was 4 years ago. but it was a great year beating usu and utah by a combined 40!!!!

im a wsu fan stuck in the past  before cravens took over we were down in the series just 28 to 24. 2-13 since. :yikes: i dont blame cravens and rahe as much as i blame stew! we just couldn't beat him. period. yogi was a good coach. booboo tried.

unfortunately it also isnt 1971 no mo but it still must have been pretty cool to see weber win the first 2 in logan. now we can only watch this high light of jimmy d and dream! or maybe its just me.

The line is moving a little. Weber is now a 2.5 point favorite.

Lets get it done tonight. Go up on them early so we don't have to listen to their chants and then put em away.

It will be sad if they bring more students than we have in our student section.

this implies you think there is a chance we could end up with more students in the dee than usu.

Series was 28-24 for USU after the 2001 game. Since then USU has won 13 of 15, including three straight and seven of the last eight. :ohno:

At half time last year I was pretty sure we would have another W in Logan. Then I got to watch the worst collapse/coaching debacle I have ever seen in my life. So I do blame Randy for last year.

it seemed like a great rivalry at the time, who would have guessed barton sinking that buzzer shot would be the end of our competition against usu. but times have changed. usu has changed conferences 2-3 times since 2001 or at least twice. competing with mtn west is much more difficult than big west.

something like...

big west
indy
bigwest
sunbelt
big west
wac
mw

i dont think they ended up playing a single conf bball game in sun belt if i can trust my memory.

Just don't get up on them too much. Giving Rahe a 20+ half time lead has rarely been a good thing. I can't handle another Randy Rahe 20+ point second half collapse.

i would rather have been at that game than the one i attended in i think 2009 when we almost set an NCAA D1 record when we went 16 min in the 2nd half with no FG. It was #2 longest drought. record was only another 3-4 min. that was another game we obviously would have won if we could make even 10 shots.

Ugh...there have been some rough games at the Spectrum lately. Rahe's first game in Lolgan we were leading at half-time. Heaven's come to think of it, while he's been our coach, Weber has lead at half-time in Lolgan almost every single time we have played up there. Uh? WTF!? We have lost three games at home during the same era that should have been wins. 2013 is the most frustrating loss in the bunch. There are no words!

Thats just sad. You gotta care for starters, and not treat it like an exhibition game.

Rebounding?...who said Wildcats should dominate? Scoring droughts at inopportune times. Nice rally by Wildcats at end, they had fight! Aggies pull it out win once again. Wildcat in-state winning drought vs. high majors continues. :ohno:
