SC Generals sign elite East Coast Guard, Wayne Bradford!
Sheridan College Men's Basketball Coach Steve Smiley is proud to announce today the signing of Baltimore, MD native Wayne Bradford. The 6'3", 185 pound guard will come to Sheridan from the east cost where he played basketball for Roanoke Catholic High School in Virginia and legendary coach Bill Hodges (Former Head Coach at Indiana State). While at RCHS, Wayne averaged 17 points, 4.5 assists, and 3 rebounds for Coach Bill Hodges and the Celtics. Bradford had his best game when his best was needed against powerhouse Oak Hill Academy when he scored 27 points, dished out 6 assists, and had 3 steals. Wayne will add to a recruiting class that will bring in recruits from all around the world. He brings a lot of game experience from high school playing against some of the very best the nation has to offer. Sheridan College will welcome Wayne Bradford to campus when the school year begins in August.

Coach Smiley had this to say about Wayne: "We're really excited to have Wayne join our team for next year. Wayne is not only a really good player, but a good student as well. Realistically, he should be at a D1 school right now, but a few things fell through for Wayne, and we were able to get involved with him late in the process. Wayne played for a great high school coach and also played for one of the top AAU programs on the East Coast when he played for the East Coast Fusion and Head Coach Cade Lemcke. Wayne is a very versatile player that is naturally a scoring guard, but could also play the point or the small forward if needed. He will really help us out for next year."

OK. When will this kid be old enough for a drivers license? This is either a Jr year picture or this young man is probably still growing. I really hope it's the later and he turns out to be 6' 7'' or more. :thumb:

Solid addition by Rahe. He along with Royce Williams, are going to be nice additions for the Cats.

Real quick, does anyone know what happened to his recruitment his senior year. It said in the article that some things fell through and that is the main reason why he ended up in Sheridan. Coach Smiley, the coach at Sheridan, said that Wayne was a definite DI player that fell into his lap. Personally, I think it would be best if Wayne were to redshirt next year. Give him a year to adjust to Rahe's system, build up some bulk and get another year of physical growth. Who knows, he might end up being a 6-4 or 6-5 when all is said and done. Coming out of high school he was 6-2, now he is 6-3. So...

i read several articles stating he had an offer from Navy, but had never committed.

Some quick pros to this signing:
- An East coast kid
- lefty
- was coach by a legend at prep school, Hodges was a rookie coach at Indiana St. when he led Larry Bird to the finals
- prep school player
- 4 yrs to play 3 yrs of eligibility
- Appears to be a good smart student based on articles
- side note: played with PF Lamont Prosser at Sheridan who signed with Portland State in November

The thing I liked about his HS highlight video, was that he didn't seem to get hurried or bothered by preshure. I don't know what all of the redshirt situations might be, but I do believe that there should be at least 2 redshirting every year. That is, unless we become a pressing, up tempo team. I don't see that happening, so, 2 per year, if at all possible. :thumb:

Barring injuries, only 9 are going to play significant minutes anyway. Having 11 dressed is plenty. Having 13 dressed is overkill. :coffee:

Agreed. I don't think a red shirt necessarily indicates that a player isn't ready, competitive, tough, or skilled. Yes, most of the time it means that a player could use an additional year to mature and learn the system better, but I think, especially next fall that Weber's redshirts are going to be a bit unique. They will red shirt because it will maximize their eligibility, while simultaneously giving them more time to develop their game, learn the system, and grow physically. Both will be ready to play, but won't get the most mins that they could. Weber is going to be deep and athletic. Nothing bad about that!! Since, from what i understand, Royce Williams has already used his red shirt, that Bradford will, in all likelihood redshirt, but then again, one never knows what'll happen.
