Weber vs The Utes

I was able to watch a lot of the the University of Utah's game last night aginst Washington. I learned a couple of things.

1st: Luke Nevill has come back to this team bigger and stronger. He is a handful in the post, and has got a good back to the basket game. He still looks like Chris Kamen brother as the missing links. None the less he is a lot better then last year, and will be even better next year, Big Jim is helping grow.

2nd: Out side of Johnnie Bryant this team has poor ball handling skills. Even Kepkay, the kid out of Easten Utah, was not great at bringing the ball up the court. He turns his back at about the three point line if there is press on him and brings the ball up court backwards. Johnnie Bryant was the only gaurd that dribbled out of a double team last night.

3rd: If there bigs get in foul trouble this team has a hard time running there offense. The ball gets stranded in the high post, and then it does not get free easily, often times turning into a turnover. They like to put the ball in the high post or out in the corner and then feed the ball into the low blocks. If Nevill is not in the game Kim Tillie has a hard time doing his part of those sets. It is not hard to get those two into foul trouble.

4th: This team can shoot the ball. They have not shoot below 53% from the field. This means one of two things, they have been able to get the ball into the paint and got easy shots, or have great outside shooting, I did not look at which one it is, or both.

The Cats have a great chance aginst this team. I do not think that the team that went to cali this week is the team that we will see next week, or for the rest of the season. This is a good team, that will show up.

If the team that went to Cali shows up on the 28th we are screwed. I'm hopefull that Rahe can whip them into shape and get them playing with more intensity and confidence. I really think that the team overlooked the Div II CSSB on Monday thinking more about their possible match-up with UCLA.

Hopefully this continuation of the promotion we did for the USU game will carry into this game. I think it will get close to what we had. BEAT THE mUtes!

Before we look at the Utes the team better focus on the team they play tomorrow if they don't they will lose. Just ask Fresno State since they lost 65-64 to Cal State-Bakersfield.
WSU 78
CSU-Bakersfield 57

Then against the Utes
WSU 72
U of U 66

I wish we played a game inbetween CSU-Bakersfield and the Utes, just to keep the rust off. It might have been nice to have a game scheduled for Saturday night.

well at least the utes have equal time off.

I think this is going to be a bigger d-fensive game. we'll have to contain neville and/or try and get him into foul trouble early. if we can do that and take care of the perimiter, we should win.
utah:60 Weber: 68

I agree with WSUCATFAN, I think that having some DII or III team on the schedule at the Dee the Friday after Thanksgiving would have been a great way of helping the team to prepare for their upcoming test with the Utes. Not only would it help them prepare for the Utes, but also it would have been a great way of helping our team to develop. Oh welll, Rahe will have them ready no matter. Santa Clara showed us what a team needs to do to beat the Utes: Attack the Big Men, play a tight zone, and use your speed. Utah may be Tall, but we counter their heigth with our speed.

We were supposed to play Utah State last Saturday(Nov. 23) but Coach Rae changed the game for Coach Stu. It was a last minute thing. No way to get another team in, and Weber is already on the hot seat w/ the Sky because of the number of DII on the schedule.

That is sad if the Big Sky is not happy with us playing 2 non div I games. USU is in the WACK and they are also playing 2 non div I's.

Luckily CSUB went D-I this year or we'd be playing 4 non D-I games! yikes!

I didn't know about the scheduling difficulties, that definitely makes sense why we didn't have another game over the weekend. Oh well, I'm sure that we will be ready for Utah on Wednesday. Rahe called the next four games the march of death, this is going to be the toughest stretch of the entire season. Lets get as many people out to the Dee on Wed.

Coach Mac is being presented with a signed football tonight during half-time to honor his 100th career victory as head football coach.

that and soldja boy's superman dance will definitely be the highlites of the night. oh and of course wsu's trouncing of the mUtes!

We need to show up in full force and give Mac the respect he deserves. Next year this time we will be talking post-season tourny wins.

Go cats, loud and proud tonight.

Interesting that they chose the Utah game for this honor for Mac...he did get many of those wins with the Utes! And his last win with Utah was against BYU-Provo and the players carried him off the field

All,

What are your thoughts on the Utah game? Did anyone see it on TV? Did the officiating look as bad as it did at the game? What were the comentators saying about Utah's coach? Did they approve of him leaving the Utah starters in the whole time? Did they find it odd he was complaining to the refs about every call until the final seconds?
