Weber

This was a must win if there ever was one. Someone must have been listening to our moaning and complaining. Marchant had an excellent shooting game, Valentine played very well and had 8 bounds and Wade, bothered by foul trouble, had the big block at the end.

It is interesting that the PSU article on the game, states "The Wildcats Megan Patterson hit a three-pointer with 13 seconds left to make it a one-point game, 63-62. Two free throws by Marchant sealed the win for PSU, though." He must have failed to watch the final 10 seconds of the game and Wade's block of Weber's 3 point attempt. Defenders get no respect.

yes definitely a must win...Claire, although not her usual self, had her usual disruptive quick hands and made things happen. Jones was hot and Wade had the biggest block of her night, we jumped in the air and loved it! Defense never gets any glory you are right, it's not flashy, sometimes not even noticable except when it doesn't happen

Even though it felt like we hung on for the win, I liked the way we showed good patience on offense by crisply moving the ball around, and waiting for good open looks. Too often, in our past losses, we seem to rush things and force contested shots, ie yak up threes. We are always going to be shooting a lot of threes. That's who we are, and, when we're on, we can win a lot of games. The only time this team will dominate in the paint is against the Lewis and Clark's of the world. That's not to say we should abandon our post game. On the contrary, like a passing football team that keeps opposing defenses honest by sneaking in the occasional run, we should look to our posts for a little balance in our scoring. I hope we can build on this win and continue to focus on crisply executing our offense and spreading the ball around. I think being patient with our shot selection is the key.
Now, if we can just tweak our post defense a little. I'm no expert, by any means, but, from my humble perch, I've noticed that our posts are often out of position on defense. A pass comes in from the perimeter and more often than not, the pass is not contested effectively. Of course, our perimeter defense is not without blame part of the time. But, it seems that our posts are often not in front of their counterpart, the ball sails easily into their hands, they turn and put up a good shot. I think our posts need a little extra coaching in how to improve their footwork and their body positioning in order to gain an advantage and stop those easy shots.

Wade's free throw % is about 20%. Why doesn't she try shooting underhand? She really needs to improve this aspect of her game. The girls say she does much better in practice but sometimes it looks as if she would rather be taking finals than shooting free throws. She actually didn't have a good game at all but just seems to come up with big plays at the end of close games. Either blocked shots, steals or rebounds.

well she may not have the numbers in the line but she certainly changes the game for our opponents by causing them to have to alter their shots amongst other things. She's a hard one to have to score on.
