Weber is at 4-4 now, all D1 wins and 3 conference games to finish the year. EWU, Davis, and Idaho State. The EWU game will be the toughest by far but with an upset in Cheney and expected wins at the other two they can still get to 7 wins and an at large birth in the playoffs. With this motivation I see the Wildcats as a VERY dangerous team.
Your thoughts?

I got a feeling this will be another close game. I think EWU wins but I'm sure there will be bullet sweating moments Saturday.

Strange things happen on Halloween

I agree. They really haven't had any quality wins, except for Montana. But Montana is struggling, and they got beat by both good and bad teams. Tough to get a sense, but if we put them away early, it would benefit us tremendously. if we let them hang around, it could be trouble, only because one day we may come up short in all these close games.

Hopefully the Special Teams gets chewed out this week! They were downright horrible on Saturday (besides the punter kicking a 44 yard FG of course). But we cant be giving up 2 returns and not getting an onside kick in the same game, that would almost always equal a loss.

Defense too needs to play much better. It seems like no matter whom EWU plays, they let the opposing team march right down the field for an 80+ yard drive to open the game. I just do not get it. :x :x :x

EWUs defense isn't very good. You can see the potential looking to the next couple years, but not enough playmakers on the field which makes it easy for smart coaches to take advantage of mismatches.

We all knew at the start of the year, this would be the case.

IMHO, EWU could be 3-4 with losses to UNC and Port State.

Good news, there doesn't seem to be a dominant FCS team nationally this year.

Every team from here on out has the potential to pop EWU in the mouth. I think Weber has the least potential to do so, but the potential is still there. We match up to Weber very well this year.

Does anyone know the injury status of our O-line? Do we have everyone back for this game?
I believe so, Cassidy Curtis was back in limited duty at No Co and played well.

I hate to say it...I really hate to say it, but I am going to expect every game to be a heart-pounding panic attack for the rest of this year. In some ways, this really does remind me of 2010 (which is hopefully ultimately a good thing!) in that this team rarely seems to be dominant, but has the fortitude to find a way no matter what. EWU can play with anyone, but anyone seems to be able to play with us as well.

As many have voiced, the defense needs to improve for us to have a realistic expectation of making noise in the playoffs. But I do see steps being made. If you take away the three special teams plays that really kept UNC in the game, it was at least a two score win, and possibly more. It'd be great to blow teams out of the water, but if our offense can produce consistently, we don't need a top 10 defense. Just one that gets a decent number of stops each game.

It will be a close game, but if we somehow win by +17 I think it marks more improvement for us as a team.

Although we have had our share of injuries, bad plays, unlucky plays, etc we have seen the team overcome alot on both sides of the ball. This past week UNC was only in the game because up to the winning field goal we were like -16 (Two return TD's and two missed PAT's) on special teams play. Throw in the UNLUCKY play on the last UNC TD pass and there you go, a much closer game than it should have been.

Silver lining may end up being that come playoff time we are experienced at winning close games and we don't panic. We've seen it all.

Anyhow, I do think our D is playing better early in games and they are creating turnovers. The OL is getting healthy, and our QB's and WR's are healing up.

Lastly, I hope someone other than me is noticing how much teams are getting away with holding Samson (#91) most the game. On the last UNC TD pass on Saturday, he was completely held at a key point in the play...he had an easy sack until the hold came. Tough to overcome non holding calls on the OL when it's clear passing situations. Just sayin.

It's time to turn the page to Weber St. Enough beating a dead horse on last week's game in UNC.

At last, we've reached the point in our schedule where it's time for some home cookin! Weber looks much improved from last year, and has a history of beating EWU in Cheney, although not since 2009. I think they'll come out fired up, but EWU seems to match up well to their weaknesses. I'd expect a big game for the passing attack and another solid game on the ground. I've been very impressed by all of our RB's being able to overcome a lot of injuries and have the next man up mentality.

I think the D will continue to improve as well. It seems like tackling has improved a little over the last few games as that was putrid to watch most of last year and the first 3-4 games this year. They're starting to create more turnovers, which is something we all have wanted to see as well.

This team is getting better, no matter how much or how little they win by. Wins are wins, and oh by the way, they're up to #5 in the country which is the highest ranking of the year so far. :thumb:

Go Eags!

Does anyone know the injury status of Reilly Hennessey?

I REALLY liked the way Beau was mixing him in before his injury. I think ultimately he is a better QB than West, and should be our starter next year. And Yes.... I know West's #'s are great, but having All-Galaxy to throw to makes it easier. Reilly just looked SO much better in the pocket and his ability to change plays at the line is something you just don't see in the Big Sky. I recall in the Oregon game, the announcers even made a joke how he was like Peyton Manning, changing the plays at the line of scrimmage.

Having him come in and change the tempo and move around behind the line is something that was working well, I hope Beau goes back to that soon.

Agreed that defense is playing better, especially in the tackling game. Didn't see many missed/broken tackles as I did earlier in the season. Also thought Nzuzi Webster made some good tackles.

Here's my ramblings:
I've been on the fence regarding the defense whether it's truly due to youth or something more. On one hand, we are VERY young but also plenty of chatter that these past recruiting classes have yielded the most talent. I know talent does not equal quality, especially right off the bat but I do have hope that the slight improvement on defense is a sign of things to come.
Also noticed a lot of 3 man fronts. Bleh, I HATE that we do not bring enough pressure, we sit back and wait to be burned on a 11 yard pass. BRING MORE PRESSURE!!!! If you get beat on a big play, well does it even matter? It just puts the ball back in the hands of the offense.

But instead of focusing on my frustrations on what bugged me on Saturday, how about some positivity:

Keenan Williams had two sacks and looked good. This dude was playing high school football this time last year. Really hoping this guy develops into a FORCE.

Jake Gall has played really well at LB. I saw/heard his name on a lot of plays during the ISU and UNC games. Plus he's got the hair game in action, we all know having long locks is key to increasing your performance on the field, #fact.

Our punter nailed a 44 yard field goal with plenty of leg in crunch time. No matter what, that takes some serious stones. Hopefully someone bough him a bag of burgers at Zips when they got to Cheney.

With all this youth, imagine the defense in 2-3 years time of playing together? I'm on the glass half full side and think we be ranked in the top 75 for defense in the next couple years!

It seems like every year around this time we have a game where it all comes together. We haven't played a full quality game this season yet, and I'm thinking conditions might be right for us to get one.

I'm sick of picking Eastern to win close games simply because we can't play 60 minutes. I'm picking our guys to wreck Weber on Saturday. It'll be like The North Daktoa game last year. Maybe not by that size of margin, but comfortable. I suspect the team got read the Riot Act after almost pissing one away, and they respond.

Our last conference loss was 3rd weekend of Oct @ NAU, we're past that, but they had me worried in Greeley.

Weber has very little offense.

As Clawman pointed out, Weber has EVERYTHING to play for.

If this is close, it's because we played sloppy. This should be a game where we full-on attack offensively.

Reilly has been ready to go for several weeks now. I would like to see him get some playing time too but with how close the games have been lately it would be too bit a gamble to put Reilly in with so little cushion in the score.
I too was impressed with his limited performance in Eugene.
