Weber's Youth

Remarkably, Weber is going to be really dependent upon unproven players in the upcoming basketball campaign. Wildcat success, for sure, is squarely balanced on the shoulders of the returning players; especially our guards Lillard and Hughey. Yet, for the Cats to build upon the success of the past two seasons, Weber will need some incoming and red-shirt freshmen to really step up. Out of the newbs, who do you all think will be the most likely player to make an immediate impact upon the team?

The new faces will be: Bamforth, Porter, Fulton, Davis, Tresnak, Richardson, and Hajek. Granted, Porter, Fulton and Davis were with the team last year, the other four will be asked to provide substantial support right away so that the Cats can continue their recent strings of success. Personally, I don't think we could have asked for a better group of players to accomplish this task. Bamforth has an outside shot at being the starting 3, if Rahe continues his trend of playing Bull at the 4. Bamforth, is coming back from a freak injury, which could end up being great for Wildcat fans, since it gives him three years of eligibility, but is he ready. Honestly, I think he will be huge for the Cats. He has three great attributes to his game. 1. He is a great outside shooter, who can create shots. 2. He knows how to get to and finish at the hoop shooting or passing, and 3. He has a fair amount of speed, which will help him improve defensively.

After Bamforth, I think Fulton and Tresnak are the next most important players for the Cats to succeed. Tresnak, is going to be backing up Morris in the Center. He brings a lot of skills for the Cats. Most importantly, he has a high basketball IQ. He is going to be bit undersized for a big, but if he can put on some more weight before the season, he should be okay for the Cats. As long as he can consistently contribute I think we can chalk his first season as a Cat as a success. Fulton...well, from what i've heard, he is a HELL of a PF. He has a nice outside shot, but is a bruiser down low. He may be a bit short for the post (6-7), but has really long arms and uses them to decieve opponents. He brings defense and offense to the Cats. Rahe said at a coaches luncheon last year, that Fulton was his best big.

Lets all be honest. Richardson was under-recruited and so far, in my estimation, has been under-rated. This is a guy who dropped 40+ three times last year, and had a handful of 30+ games. He played for Tracy High, that doesn't have the tradition that some of the other local schools, in his area, have, but made the best out of the situation. I can see him being a great role player for the Cats next year, as a freshman.

Both incoming freshmen Tresnak and Hajek were measured at 6'10" and 250 lbs during June. Also important for Fulton and Tresnak is their wingspan, I believe both have over 7' fingertip to fingertip. Will help defensively.
