I believe that you are correct about the announcers, Joseph. They were horrible ONLY in terms of their inexperience. We had announcers last season who were blatant homers, and these guys weren't really that. They merely don't know their craft, don't know all that much about the game, have a youngster's view of it, are stuck on the same metaphors, and (surprisingly for a Bible college) couldn't even apply the Red Sea analogy correctly.
If UIW has such a thing (Sac did during the Volek era), they should take a football coaching class. While the purpose of that class is really to install the offense and defense (it's a required class for players during the spring semester to prepare them for Spring Ball), it's generally open to the entire student body (very few non-players actually bother to take it). They would greatly benefit from that. "I'd just chuck it" just doesn't cut it from a coaching perspective, because there has to be a purpose for airing it out. From a West Coast perspective, that's generally to get the DBs to lay off so the short passing game and the running game have room to function. If all you do is "chuck it," you're going to go three-and-out every series and therefore lose. Again, this is strictly a function of age and familiarity with the game. Get them that coaching class and some mentoring by experienced play by play and color commentators, and they might make something of themselves. As frustrating as that was to hear, at least they weren't claiming we were cheating. I believe there actually WAS a set of announcers that alleged that last year (or something very similar).
