Week 1: Sac State vs Eastern Oregon

Eastern Oregon (0-1) lost their opening game by a wide margin of 40-28 to the College of Idaho last week. The Mountaineers hit the road again and head to Hornet Stadium to open up the Hornets 2015 season. The Hornets open up the season at home for the first time since 2008 which will also be the debut for a lot of new starters.

EOU gave up over 400 yards of offense (268 yards on the ground) so the Hornets should be able to move the ball at will. EOU had a balanced offensive attack on offense and mustered 321 yards of offense. QB Zach Bartlow was their leader in all purpose yards followed by WR Jace Billingsley.

The Hornets should dominate this game and cruise to an easy win. The offense will have a large size advantage in the trenches and should be able to push EOU’s defensive front around. The Hornet defense will just need to keep Bartlow and Billingsley under wraps and that will keep the Mountaineers form threatening in this one. EOU gave up 5 sack in their opener so the Hornets should be able to get into the backfield and harass Bartlow the entire game.

Football season is finally here, the Hornets need to get it started right.

Go Hornets!!!

By the lack of promo, hype and electricity you would never know the first game is this weekend. Guess they have already sold out the stadium?

I was wondering why all the promos had been slowing down... Usually a week 1 home game at Sac gets a good draw from the students with all the dorm residents curious about Hornet Football. Let's hope folks are knocking on doors in the res halls and putting up signage at the WELL!!!

The last thing we would want to do is show practice clips of running plays in a game week I would think that is probably why. The front office and media relations need to get on it

We can't get all cloak and dagger mentality when you only get 5 home games a year to fill up the seats. Gotta give the fans something....we had to find out the starting QB from the statehornet, lol.

This is a NAIA team and I would hope the Sac playbook is deep enough to give different looks where a few second shot here and a few second shot there wouldn't doom the cause. My goodness, what are they going to do next week against UDub, go into the witness protection program?

I hope the campus/community hasn't used up all its energy with the Anthony Sadler and Pres. Nelson fall address. First home opener since 2008.

I was at the dorms last Friday and was pleasantly surprised with the buzz. President Nelsen, players, cheerleaders, and Herky were making the rounds meeting students and families. My wife chatted briefly with the president and liked him. A down to earth guy. We met Lars Hanson who went room to room handing out schedules and meeting people. Good young man. Dorm move in seemed more of an event than I remember from years ago! :-)

Hornetsports Week 1 release is up.

An interesting starting lineup.
250# Bade at RT. :?
Harrison starting at WR
Mazza moved to DE
Nonu not listed at DT
Dakin not listed at OL
Banks at NB
Scott-Anderson (true FR) at FS
Cornish at K, so I assume that injury in the scrimmage wasn't a big deal?

Interesting.

Casey Dakin and Peter Nonu missing is real strange... Wonder what's up... Not surprised Harrison is starting - he's gotta be fired up....

Jonathan bade is drastically undersized for a DI OL, but i watched him bully guys much larger at TE last season, he's only a Soph and you'd think the coaches want him to put on at least 10lbs a year over the next three...

I wonder if Nonu and/or Dakin are hurt. I think Nonu has a redshirt available, Dakin already used his.

Is there any chance they're off for the week due to the fact it's an NAIA school? Maybe a minor injury that needs a week? (Spitballing here)

I just realized no JJ Castillo listed at DL on the 2 deep and neither is Josh Armstrong at CB. SJH has a point, maybe these guys got dinged up in camp and are being held out, or maybe Sears is using this game as a chance to look at some of the younger players in live action? Just seems….odd…

All of those players are currently practicing. Let's just keep in mind all players are not little Angels. You do not take any team lightly, ever. I do not care what level they are. I am sure they are suspended for some reason. Makes me feel good that everyone is equal no matter who you are

If these are suspensions, more power to Sears. Toe the line or you won't play on it... Hoping the get their S together for UW!

So what's everyone's expectations of the Hornets tomorrow?

I’d like to see 350+ yards of offense, no turnovers, and over 30 points. Defensively I would like to see the Hornets hold them to under 17 points and less than 300 yards of offense.

SATURDAY!!! GET YOR A** OVER HERE RIGHT NOW!!!

I predict this thing is over by the second half. Air it out and try some plays the first quarter, then run it the rest of the game.

Portland State beats Washington State today, the first loss to a Big Sky school since 1947 at WSU in football.

Congratulations to the Vikings.

Great for their program and for the Big Sky.

Hope to see more football wins by Big Sky schools over the Pac 12 and higher football division schools today and next week.

UND beat Wyoming too. And the Valley got a big victory with the Jackrabbits taking down lowly Kansas.

Very pleased with tonight's dominance. Hopefully it brings some confidence and continues at UW.

I'm not the best at recaps, but I will say it is hard to know anything from this game. They played and NAIA opponent, and acted like it. They didn't look very sharp at times, and kind of cruised. Our running game had a few flashes, but got caught many, many times. We were luckily able to bounce their undersized linemen off most times, but it was a little worrying. Passing game was pretty decent. Lots of passes on the numbers or hands, but it took a while for them to realize the game had started.

Lots of lazy play mixed with lets-show-them-we're-D1. The UW game should be telling of how this team is built, and what to expect.
