Week 11: Sac State @ Cal Poly

I know that neither team is where they would like to be at this point in the year, but I think this will still be a great game. Both teams are just a couple of plays away from being 5-0 in conference. Both teams played two FBS teams. I think both are better than their 4-5 records. Both teams are now Big a Sky rivals and will play each year. I am looking forward to it. Any Sac State fans here making it to SLO for the game?

Winnable game for the Hornets and as Slo eluded to CP is not playing up to their typical standards. I don't know what to expect. If Safron keeps playing at a high level I like our chances. The Hornet D is utter garbage but they defend the run a lot better than they do against...ah hell our D has no clue on how to defend the pass. Should be a close game.

I think it sorta depends on what CP does. If they actually watch (and LEARN from) our film from recent weeks, then they will avoid Davis in the middle. If they make the mistake of going his way, watch out! We could see some fumbles and picks coming our way....

There are always a couple of teams in any coference that are unpredictable. This is the first year I have to say that almost every team in the Big Sky is unpredictable. As mentioned, we should be sitting at 5-0 in the Big Sky, but we're not. Sac could easily be 4-1 or even 5-0, but they're not. Northern CO has given a couple of scares. Weber beat SFA, and MSU lost to them. All my Big Sky predictions this year have come down to this:

If the defense stays disciplined as they did last year and contains the option we have a great shot. If we get into a shoot out I don't think Cal Poly has the diversity or talent on offense to stay with us.

Hornets 31
Poly 17

I could see this game going either way. Cal Poly's strength is their defense and Sac State's is their offense. That should be fun to watch. I really think where the game will be won though is how Cal Poly's offense does against Sac State's defense.

CP leads 21-7 at the half. Very unenthused play by the Hornets, a no show imo. ST mistakes and poor play set up the first 2 CP TDs. I don't see the Hornets coming back in this one.

Players signaling they have no interest in playing for this coaching staff anymore we may peak with 4 wins this year!

interresting that the Cow Poly broadcassters got our AD , Mr. Winless on their halftime show. Mr. Winless said that his program needed to win and the facilities need to be upgraded. But he did not say what he is doing about that?

The goal is to break ground on the new events center late '14. That will address the needs of hoops, vball, and maybe even gym. After that the focus needs to be on Hornet Stadium, and/or the baseball field. One step at a time.

The Poly broadcaster was trying to get Wanless to agree that Sac State would be a better fit in the Big West for the oly sports than the Big Sky. Wanless skilfully danced around the issue agreeing that it would be better for rivalries and transportation but that we enjoyed some "separation" from the other California schools whatever that means. My suspicion is that there was a agreement between the Big West and Big Sky to allow football only memberships to Poly and the dungpile while not allowing the same deal for Sac State. The Big West would gain from not potentially losing Poly and the dungpile who might look elsewhere for their football needs while the Big Sky would keep a recruiting and media presence in California for all sports.

I unfortunately (or fortunately, depending on one's perspective) missed the game due to the CIF Sac-Joaquin Section Subsection Cross Country Meet at Frogtown and a roller derby championship at Sac Memorial Auditorium. (As a side note, NEVER get concessions at Memorial Auditorium. The prices are sky high, and the quality is TERRIBLE.) Did anyone see how CP dealt with Davis? Did they avoid him?

Thanks!
