Week 2: Sac State at Washington

Washington (0-1) lost their opening game at #23 Boise State in a close one, 16-13. It was a defensive slug fest with neither team really able to get much going on offense. The Huskies struggled with FR QB Jake Browning at the helm who didn’t get much help from the ground game as the Huskies racked up an abysmal 1.3 yards per carry against a stout Bronco defense.

The Hornets will see a huge step up in opponent talent level after easily displacing Eastern Oregon last week. Washington held Boise State to 337 yards of offense and didn’t let the Broncos get much going on offense despite being on the field for almost 35 minutes.

The Hornets have a shot in this one if they can play a flawless game. That means no turnovers by the offense and the defense not giving up big plays. Defensively the Hornets will need to get after Browning and rattle his cage. I agree with HornetHope that if the Hornets can rattle Browning, he could be forced into making some turnovers. Offensively the Hornets need to take care of the ball and move the chains. UW’s defense is going to be infinitely better than what they saw against EOU, so this offensive line must play better to allow Kniffin and Robinson to make plays so the Hornets can stay in this one.

Go Hornets!!!

So, SD...

Given the current state of UDub football, how do you think a Hornet upset here would rank among our Pac-12 wins? I think it shoots to the top, as Colorado has been a bottom-feeder pretty much since Bill McCartney left to focus on Promise Keepers, and while Oregon State occasionally shows flashes of brilliance, they're generally middle-of-the-pack at best. Washington generally shows more, though they HAVE been kinda-sorta down-in-the-dumps the last few years....

I still remember the shocking defeat you guys gave us in 2004, what a nightmare that game was. You gave us a scare in 2006, but this time will be different because for our dawgs revenge is a dish best served COLD!

Guys, sorry to say but SeattleDude420 is likely a parody account partaking in a poor attempt at humor by pretending to confuse Fresno with Sacramento. Hilarious right?

I've been posting/lurking at HardcoreHusky.com (I swear it isn't a bestiality site; it's an active UW message board) and believe this a game they play to mess with "lesser schools" is areas that they perceive to be "lesser locations."

I tried chatting a little football over there, but it's pretty much a collection of about five different a$$holes trolling each other, posting screenshots of PMs, underage girls, and bitching about every single thing about their team. I'm sure they're lurking here now. Hi fellas!!!

Well thanks for the heads up. Funny thing is I just would have went along the lines of GL's assumption.

Disagree.

So, who is Suck State?

Straight from Webster's:

Suck State: (adjective, often used as a adverb), a colloquial originating in the central valley of California, USA, often used by opposing forces to incite shame, lack of pride and an otherwise feeling of inferiority in life and specificially in athletic endeavors.

Recently, the term is used in describing the lack of leadership, goverance and/or movement by leaders of the local CSU branch of state-funded, beaurecratic, socialist favoring institution of higher education.

That was before 75 conference championships over the last decade and a new President, so maybe the term can be finally retired for good?

I think the term should still be used…

…so we can identify the unintelligible trolls on the internets. 8-)

Safe travels to all those heading to the game, I’m looking forward to spending the weekend in Seattle. I’m hoping we can hang with UDub for a quarter or two and avoid any significant injuries. Bottoms up folks.

Anyone have information on Kniffin's injury?
Look like he dinged his non-throwing hand. Went to locker room, but returned to the sideline. I'm guessing he'll be ok.

Hornetsports release on the 49-0 loss.

Hornets played well for the first 20 minutes and hung tough. Then UDub made defensive adjustments, shut down the Hornet offense, and then the Hornet defense was just on the field too much. Some good this game, but a lot of bad.

Offense had a few decent drives, only one really had a chance for points but Cornish missed a make-able FG. OL was completely dominated on the run game. I thought the WRs could have made a few more plays here and there. Kniffin was staring down his WRs early and that allowed for an easy INT early in the game. Piss poor drive late on a fumble recovery inside the redzone (Kniffin was out by this time). All in all I think this offense will be fine moving the ball in the air against the weak defenses in the BSC.

Defense made some stops here and there but overall had a rough day. They battle early and finished the game on an up note (UW was shutout in the 1st and 4th quarters). The defense gave up too many big plays and didn't take advantage of some opportunities. Banks (who is going to be a total stud) would have had an easy pick 6 early in the game had he turned and looked inside when he jumped a bubble screen, Crouch or Clark (forget who) dropped an INT and UW scores on a big play that same drive. A couple other places where there could have been an INT made resulted in a big play the other way as well. The Hornet D did get 3 sacks and some hurries which is encouraging.

Special teams was bad. Missed FG by Cornish, a blocked FG, and the kick coverage team sucked on its lone kickoff. Hennie had a few good returns of 30+ yards. Heath had a few crappy punts too.

This team should get better, and I think they will.

I wouldn't say this game was totally bad. A few plays the hornets would like to have back. The INT by Kniffen you would like to have back. That DB jumped a mile in the air to get that ball. The Almost INT that went through our hands to the Huskies for a TD. Then the 2min drill before the half. Had them on the 10yard line with little over 1 min to go.
Cornish doesn't look right to me. Missed thee 44 TD field goal bad and the kick-off. They caught the ball around the 10 yard line. May look to the other kid, for maybe one of the duties likely kick-offs.
Worse call of the day was the reverse on 4th and 1. Are you kidding me?

After all that I do believe in this team. I believe they are better then 49-0. They are very young. I am excite to see this team grow. Sears still has a strong hold on this team. Go Beat Weber
