Week 7 - #5 Sac State at Northern Colorado

How you beat bad teams matter. Not just for everything that has been listed, but rankings. Especially this year and going forward where BOTH the coaches poll and media poll count towards playoff seeding. Being in the top8 matters in the FCS because those schools get a bye in the first round. Being in the top4 matter because you get home field advantage through the quarterfinals. All of those things adds up. A big part of why the Hornets got the second seed last year because they crushed almost all of the bad teams they played against. If they were squeezing by schools like they did in 2019, then it’d be closer to 8 and possibly falling out of seeding and having to play in the first week.

And all of the FCS media are pointing that fact out, and some of their rankings this week had them dropping Sac to between 6 and 15 on some voting ballots. Unfortunately the expectation bar was set very high by the coaches, the fans, the community, the media voters and the coaches voting. We need to perform better. Yes we won, get a 1st week game, and worst yet, a road game and folk will be less happy with the hey at least we beat an 0-5 team.

Exactly! The FCS is weaker than ever this year! With NDSU regressing after a decade of domination. In normal years, there would be a very clear top5-8. This year, there’s only a a clear top2, SDSU and Montana State (top 3 before Idaho loss this past weekend). Sac State needs to step up make it very clear that they belong this year. Hopefully, it starts this weekend by proving everyone wrong
