Weekly Tyler Geving Show

Has anyone been listening to Crawford's weekly Wednesday show with Geving?

I listened to the first couple and it just seemed like a lot of coach-speak. A bit more detail this week about how practice is going.

Sounds like guards are looking good but there's some inconsistency with the front court. Sounds like Tucker is looking good and Spickerman has been slowed with an ankle sprain.

Towards the end of the Tyler Geving Basketball Show, Coach Geving stated on next week's show he may have a roster change announcement . I would guess it may be another transfer. It also sounded like it wasn't a done deal, but reading between the lines, it may be a major pick-up!

The show's host is good for this broadcast. He sounds dedicated and little labored (like OSU announcers used to sound like) but he also sounds optimistic, like there's something real to build upon.

He said he worked in a capacity related to cancer. Is he a physician? If he is, this is great credibility and imagery for the program. "Let's treat and heal the program." He brings out Coach Tyler really well.



Coach Tyler would be more appealing if he would develop himself to be less regional (in his accent and delivery) and bring his values and standards more and more (incrementally) nationally attuned.

"Aw, shucks. I'm from Seattle, don'tcha know."

Viking Basketball Adds Transfer Donivine Stewart

Adding yet another piece to the puzzle for the 2015-16 season, Portland State Basketball has signed Donivine Stewart to an athletic aid agreement.

Stewart, a 6-0, 195-pound point guard will transfer from Southern Illinois Edwardsville, where he has played the past two seasons. Stewart has earned his degree at SIUE and has one year of eligibility remaining. Stewart played one season at Bradley (2011-12), then two at SIUE (2013-15).

"Donivine gives us another capable ball-handler in the back court," said Viking Head Coach Tyler Geving. "He brings a lot of experience, having played 30+ minutes a game at SIUE for two seasons. And as a fifth-year senior, he brings maturity and leadership to our team. Donivine is an outstanding person who has earned his degree in business and will start his masters program here in the fall."

Over the past two seasons, Stewart started 58 of 59 games for SIUE, averaging 10.5 points, 4.3 assists and 3.6 rebounds for the Cougars. He shot .414 from the field, .348 from three-point range and .682 at the line. Stewart led the team in assists both seasons while averaging nearly 32 minutes per game at point guard. He was named to the Ohio Valley Conference All-Newcomer team in 2013-14 while leading the team in scoring at 12.2 points per game.

Stewart also faced the Vikings in games each of the past two seasons (both won by PSU), averaging 12.5 points, 4.0 rebounds and 5.5 assists. He will return with the Vikings to play at SIUE on Dec. 12 of the coming season.

In high school, Stewart was a four-time All-State selection for Limestone High School in Peoria, IL. He set the Limestone and Mid-Illini Conference career scoring record with 2,295 points.

Portland State completed a 15-14 season in 2014-15. The Vikings were sixth in the 12-team Big Sky Conference with a 9-9 record. PSU will return five letterwinners, three starters and two redshirts in 2015-16.

Geving has now signed nine student-athletes for next season. Among the signees are two graduate students (seniors), five juniors, one sophomore and one freshman.
