• Hi Guest,

We've updated the site to combine all the forums that were part of the Big Sky Fans Network into one location. This will make it easier to navigate and participate in all the discussions for each school without having to have multiple accounts, etc. We are still working out some tweaks but please let us know if you notice anything.

With the migration, in some circumstances, your username could have been merged with one of your other usernames from the other forums. If this is the case, you can request to change your username in your account details page of your profile.

Welcome Cal Poly and UC Davis!

Wow, this would be huge. However, two more conference games would leave less opportunity for out of conference money games. How will this impact the conference members that need to schedule FCS schools for budget reasons?

That’s a good point. Teams will have to be more selective in what FBS games they play. On the positive side, this guarantees at least one trip to California each year and two every other year. That will be huge for recruiting.

Joshusa Scroggin, reporter for the SLO Tribune, blogged that Cal Poly will make a major announcement tomorrow. He speculates it might be the announcement that Poly will join the Big Sky as a FB member only. He also has heard another intriguing idea:

Could Cal Poly be joining forces with some other FCS teams in the western region to form a new conference, maybe even with an intent to move it to the FBS level?

California teams Cal Poly, UC Davis and Sacramento State along with Montana and Montana State would come together to form the nucleus of a brand new alliance. I admit it’s far-fetched...

If both Davis and Poly join the Big Sky, it would provide the conference some stability should other members (Sac State, PSU, the two Montanas?) choose to join the WAC. It's also a good pre-emptive move to perhaps convince those schools to stay in the Big Sky, rather than consider WAC offers. I'm also seeing rumors on the Griz board that Southern Utah may be joining the league as a "full member." If the Big Sky can get to 12, they can go to divisions and host a post-season championship game -- all the while maintaining the opportunity for three non-conference games ($$$), if they so desire.

A lot of intrigue. I must say, the conference has done a great job keeping the lid on this one -- so far there have been no credible leaks.

PS--The Big Sky has scheduled a news conference for 5 p.m. MT, and will release some sort of information at 2 p.m.
