Welcome to the Tennessee Valley WSU! My name is Ned and I have been a Chattanooga resident all my life and a huge fan of Chattanooga football. One thing I don't do is trash talk as I respect the passion of football fans and don't believe in insulting fans just for the sake of insulting. Anyway, if you have any questions about Chattanooga or the Mocs (which is short for Mockingbirds BTW) please let me know. We had a decent season here this year but were really hoping to pick up our fourth straight Southern Conference (SOCON) title. We lost to two triple option teams and the University of Alabama (although we did hold them to their second lowest offensive production of their season and sacked their QB four times which was another first as well for Bama). I'll be reading up on you guys trying to learn about the Wildcats and hope if you need any info or honest opinion you'll let me know!

Thanks for your welcome. I think it will be a good game

Also wanted to extend a friendly welcome from Chattanooga. Congrats on making the playoffs!

I am always excited to get to play teams out of our region. It's been at least a decade since Weber and the Mocs play in basketball, that is the only time I can remember these two schools squaring off against each other.

Also, if you want to talk to some Mocs, there are two messageboards...

I run http://www.mocfans.com

and a friend of mine runs http://mocnation.yuku.com/

Both boards are pretty minimal on smacktalk, we're friendly and just like to talk football. Both sites are free and the ads disappear when you sign up for an account. Drop by and say hi!

Thanks Nooga Ned and welcome to our board. We as Weber fans are stoked to finally be back in the playoffs. I personally am looking forward to this matchup.

We run a pro style offense, run first. Don't have the strongest pass game but it has improved immensely since last year.

I think it'll be a good game. Good luck come Saturday. If you know any other "Mockingbird" ;) fans who like to chat we welcome all fans. Congrats on a great season. See you Saturday

What???!! Don't be wishing them Mocs fans good luck! Wildcats (your name sake) need all the Good Luck they can get against what appears to be a very good opponent. Weber State will have to play their best of the season to be in this game. And I sure hope they do! :twocents:

Nothing against being nice, but there's a limit!

I am excited for this matchup! Crazy thing happened yesterday. At a party, I spoke with a couple from Missouri who were here in Utah for grad school. They love the outdoors and said Utah is perfect for them. After hearing him rave about Utah, he did say Chattanooga has some really awesome outdoor activities nearby and is a special place!

At Chattanooga, we run first to set up the pass. Our main weapon is Derrick Craine, aka, The Craine Train. He was on pace for a record setting year until he received a high ankle sprain against the now #6 seed The Citadel back in October. He missed a few games after that, but in his place, Ricardre Bagley came into his own and had two 130+ yard games. The OL gets most of the credit here. We have an NFL prospect in Corey Levin, projected to be the fifth guard taken in the draft this year. He had a great game against Alabama. We have two wide receivers who are consistent deep threats who have 7 100 yard receiving games between them. Defensively, it starts with out ends, Keionta Davis and Vantrell McMillan who have 15 sacs between them and 26 tackles for loss. The defensive tackles have been very good for the most part at stopping the run. We have two linebackers who are both All-Conference who have great sideline to sideline speed. Dale Warren, #20, had a highlight reel sack of Jalen Hurts during the Bama game causing a 15 yard loss.

I guess I should get my college history up to shape.

I thought Mocs was short for Moccasins, I guess 1996 due to ethnic sensitivity they changed the name from Moccasins to just Mocs which then became shortened for Mocking Birds which is based on the Northern Mocking Bird which is Tennessee's state bird.

Chattanooga plays their football in the 20,668 seat W. Max Finley Stadium. Named in honor of W. Max Finley, former chairman of the Rock Tenn Corporation, who was an alumnus and active supporter of the University of Tennessee system

Beautiful looking stadium.

Wish I could take the trip but flight prices around Thanksgiving are murder and I just cant afford it. Will be cheering from the sidelines known as my computer.

GO WILDCATS

Chattanooga has been picked twice by Outdoor Magazine as the number one outdoor city in the nation:

Chattanooga has both a full Ironman and a half Ironman in the Ironman Triathlon series. They have hosted the US Pro Cycling Championships, World Hang Gliding Championships, the 1996 Olympics white water events were less than an hour away.

It was short for Moccasins in the past, and as you said, political correctness became involved. The story:

Chattanooga was a major site in the Civil War with a battle there and a battle just south in Chickamauga Georgia. There are multiple parks and a fantastic museum at Chickamauga. If you are a fan of rifles and weapons, it is a must stop:

Some interesting history on the Chattanooga battle. If you are sitting in our stadium and you look east you will see Missionary Ridge. The Confederates had laid siege on the Union troops from all the adjoining mountains. When General Grant reinforced the Union troops they broke out by going over Missionary Ridge. On the northern flank of the battle there was a Wisconsin regiment. As they were charging up the ridge the officers were shot and the guideon (soldier carrying the Wisconsin regimental flag) went down. A young office picked up the flag and shouted several times ON WISCONSIN! That became their battle cry and became the battle cry of the Univ of Wisconsin. Oh, that young man was Arthur McArthur. He was awarded a Congressional Medal of Honor for that act. He would later have a son named Douglas McArthur. Yes, that Douglas McArthur.

With all the deaths in the battles there was a National Cemetery started there. It is the second largest behind Arlington. In it you will find many of "Andrew's Raiders". They were the soldiers who stole the train locomotive and started the chase northward from Kennesaw Ga. This was the basis of the Disney movie The Great Locomotive Chase and the Charlie Chaplin movie The General. For many years the locomotive "the General" was in Chattanooga but is now in Kennesaw. The Union soldiers were caught and hanged and most are buried in Chattanooga National Cemetery. You see them and a statue honoring them as you enter:

Also buried there is Desmond Doss, who is the person featured in the current movie Hacksaw Ridge which is out now.

I have been to Chattanooga a few times and I have loved it every time! Great area, great eats, and really nice people. Tennessee is honestly one state I wouldn't mind moving to. Sadly I wont be making the trip out there for this game. We all know how airfare is this time of year especially last minute travel. I am hoping that the WSU A.D. and the Chatt A.D. can put together a home and home contract in the near future.
Anywho, should be a great game.

This would be super awesome, I don't see it happening but a fan base could hope for a H&H series with a team from Tennessee? We just finished up some H&H contracts with teams from Texas, Louisiana and North Dakota. Lets try to get a little farther east :)

Does bring up an interesting thought though. Our 2017 schedule only has 10 games on it. Who are we gonna try to get? I'd imagine we'd shoot for a home game since we already play @ Cal and @ Sac State. I hope we don't go for a Div II team or lower, they don't do many favors come selection Sunday. I am hoping they are trying to get a H&H contract started with another FCS team (an FCS team preferably not from the Big Sky)

Welcome Moc fans! I love Chattanooga...too bad it is the inlaws year for Bird Day, or I would be making my way out to Tenn. I've spent some time around that area. Love Civil War history and spent and entire day walking the battlefield. Incredibly what those troops went through. I do know that there will be quite the Weber fan base. A contingent of Weber State fans in the DC area ( heard from my buddy who is a in charge of the U alumni group in N. Virginia, that some U and Y fans want to go support Weber) are supposedly going to road trip down for the game. There are a lot of Weber alumni in the area and it would be great to see a good showing on Saturday.

As for games...Wildcat, it is easy for Eastern teams to play each other. There are a lot of FCS programs and they are close to each other. You can bus a lot easier in the East and that makes it far cheaper. For the Boston College game we played about 7 years ago, it cost Weber almost $80K to make the trip. That took a huge chunk out of the money we earned for playing that game (I think about $450K). I would love to see more H&H's but reality is that nobody wants to pay the travel cost of coming out west and we don't want to pay to go east. If it was for a major payday then yes, I think we take it. For a H&H, no way. The furthest we will travel is to play MVC or Southland Conference schools.

But...yes, I too am hoping for a H&H with an FCS for next year...preferably starting in Ogden. Most likely we will end up playing a DII. Ugh...
