I am excited about a new era beginning with Eagle basketball! I wish coach Hayford the best! I am eager to hear who the assistants will be and how the existing players will react to his hiring.

Hayford Accepts EWU Coaching Job

Jim Hayford will officially be named the new men's basketball coach at Eastern Washington University during a news conference on Tuesday, KXLY confirmed Monday afternoon

Very cool to get a local guy and someone with his roots firmly grounded in the Spokane area. He might stick around for awhile and give us some stability. :thumb:

I just got back from the Jim Hayford press conference and I am impressed.
A DIII coach that comes with an entourage. The man is not only coming with coaching skills but a wonderful family and lots and lots of friends and supporters, which were at the press conference. Eastern basketball is in for a wonderful revival. We are going to have a lot more seats filled in Reece court. More benefits will come from a new summer camp program and an interest in athletes in the Northwest.
He said he would have his coaching staff completed in about 10 days and has had over 47 emails for the positions in just the one day.
This is a great day for EWU. Athletics is the front porch too the University Home and its many wonderful programs. It will mean so much too all students staff and alum to have two major sports gaining publicity.

Ron:

I hope hope the big sky gets lots of good coaches, and it raises the level of basketball and more people get excited about things.

There are good coaches in:
NAU
Weber
Sac St
Nor Col
EWU-Now
Portland State--verdict is out
Idaho State---needs an upgrade
Montana
Monotana State-needs an upgrade

It's funny that we've tailed off so badly with our b-ball program because the truth is we have a lot of advantages compared to what is in our conference. Our football facilities are horrible and hopefully improving, but we're above the midpoint for basketball even without improvements to Reese.

Portland State and Sac State play in high school gyms... I'm not even sure what to call that thing NAU plays in. Idaho State's gym is essentially a small football stadium that is logistically terrible for basketball. I don't think I've seen UNC's facilities, but knowing UNC, they're not that great.

Well we know he certainly can coach, judging by his track record. Will be interesting to see how successful he is at recruiting. Seems like a very nice hire!
