What about a Dome?

sunday

Did I just hear the CP vs. NAU game announcer say the new dome cost about $26 million? If so, given the cold weather late in the year, has that ever been a consideration with the Gateway Project?

Other events, such as concerts could be held year round. Just as long as you get a Big Screen...hanging from the middle of the field ;)

How about they just wear bras and hug each other? Play with a balloon instead of a football with the winner being whoever is nicer? :|

Are you shi@@in me?? NO f'in way. Football is to be played AND WATCHED outdoors.
I just left the game in Portland and they have a very nice setup. Majority of the seating is covered yet the field is open. If the Gateway project had the roof sections as originally drawn it would be a great asset to selling tickets.

Hell no to the dome. For several reasons:

1. Football is meant to be played outdoors
2. No room for growth in a Dome. See UI, ISU, etc. Idaho has been "stuck" with the Kibbie Dome for years.
3. Domes are lame.

Covered stands are my preference. Although I wouldn't be unilaterally opposed to a dome in this climate. It would suck in the early portion of the season, though.

We could make the roof retractable

And the $20m price tag quickly balloons to $200m.

I'll tell you what though, sitting through that Portland State game would have been completely intolerable without the covered stands. In Europe, hardly any stadium is built without a cover. The plan is for the East side grandstads to be covered at Roos.

I believe the cover has been removed for financial reasons. Too bad because I think we should be going big at this point. If we want to get above the high school field type facilities. we need to start NOW.
Think BIG
Build it and they will come.

How difficult do you think it would be to add a cover in the future?

Depending or the structural design built into the facility now. Bottom line is USUALLY that the additional cost now would lead most to say lets just do it right in the first place because the reality is it usually does not happen later.
The question is do we want to have a facility that is leading edge or just a bigger high school facility.

Well, if they can't afford it, they can't afford it. I'm not about to ask the school to start digging into my pocket (I'm a student) just to add covered seating. I realize that the dome would be donation based, but if there just isn't enough donations, we will be okay. Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't WAGriz have uncovered seating? Seems to work fine to me.
