Report this postReply with quote Another SMU QB Transfer??
by Swoop55 » Thu Feb 02, 2012 10:35 pm

I was just doing some searching and came across that SMU QB Kyle Padron was just granted his release. Yes, the same Kyle Padron who took over the starting job for Bo Levi Mitchell when Bo went down at SMU. The same exact situation happened to Kyle as what happened to Bo. Kyle tore it up as a true freshman and then gets hurt his soph yr and losses his job. Just sayin......You better believe that Kyle has reached out to Bo Levi about EWU. The kid slings it like Bo and would be a great fit in EWU's system! Would have an immediate impact! He would have 2 yrs of eligibility.

Thoughts?? I like Vernon Adams a lot, but could we really pass on Padron? I get he would have "earn" the starting job...

What's your point? The guy wins the starting position after only 4 weeks in the system. Beats an FBS team and nearly beats another on their home fields. WSU kicks a 60 yard fg and we miss an extra point, otherwise we're tied. We also drop an easy pick 6, otherwise we win. He plays half a season and throws for 2400 yards. Imagine what the other half of the season would result. He wins 2 playoff games. He didn't play defense against Sam. Yeah, he threw a pick 6, but it happens. What's your point? If I'm him, I'd get the hell out of Cheney as well. No use putting up with poor decisions. Ask Baldwin his biggest regret.........

I thought Kyle was a great player. He was in a tough situation, but so was the coaching staff. One QB would be hot, then go cold...and then the other step in and get hot. It's not an easy situation to be in for either the staff or the player. I appreciate what Kyle did this season and don't blame him for pursuing his dream of playing in the NFL and wish him nothing but the best.

Starting Qb is the toughest position on the team. You get all the praise when you win, and all the blame when you lose.

Is this supposed to be serious? Padron did well, but so did Vernon Adams. You can't possibly look at Vernon's body of work and say he didn't deserve to play. Padron had some great games, and some rough ones. As did Adams. But by and large, they both did quite well.

The only issue I had was that Vernon seemed to have a longer leash. When he played horrendous against Montana State, Eastern stuck with him. That issue sort of gets mitigated though because it was really the only bad outing he had. Just the same, Padron was all out of sorts against Sam Houston State. That isn't a knock on Padron, just evidence that QBs can look like phenoms one day and the next can't hit a darn thing.

Still, Padron is the man... and I'm sure everyone wishes him the best. I wish he'd have stuck around another year. But you can't blame our coaches for that... it certainly wasn't the result of "bad decisions."

It appears the coaches learned from the Bobcat game, when they stuck with Adams it spite of his poor throwing, and applied that in the Portland game. If we would have stuck with Adams @ PSU I really do not feel we would have won. Padron bailed us out that game. Also have to wonder if we would have put Adams in at some point in the second half of the Cougar game. Anyway, both guys made a contribution to the team last season and I wish Kyle best of luck and hope he gets a shot somewhere.
