What do we need?

As far as I can see, more depth. We did have a deeper bench playing later in the year. Von Hoffe looks like he can really play. Hill came off the bench and had some decent minutes. Moon is a beast on defense. With Jorg coming off red shirt next year our size off the bench will be a lot bigger. OG was a nice surprise this year.

Overall, I think it will all come together next year. 20 wins??? We had 15 this year, most in 10 years. Free throws have to improve. Overall still a young team, I like where we are going though. :thumb: Thoughts????

Please excuse the book I wrote below. Just wanted to get my observations and wish list for next year out for discussion.
I think this team is going to create matchup nightmares in next year and into the future. The combination of inside game, accurate outside shooting and slashing guards will put this team at the top of the conference. I think this team will have a 20+ win season next year. This last season it took the team a while to get good offensive ball movement and continuity. But if you watched the second games versus Northern Colorado and Northern Arizona you saw how potent this team could be on offense. Generally for next year the team needs to start the season strong and be more consistent, especially on defense. Also got to hit more free throws next season.

Parker Kelly did an outstanding job on many of the best offensive players in the conference this year. He was king of hustle and looked more athletic this year. Also a great 3 point shooter, he will be a senior team leader next year.

Drew Brandon is a solid player on offense and defense. He is a great rebounding guard and handles the point with great poise. He will be a great senior team leader next year.
Garret Moon does a great job coming off the bench defensively and at times showed really good driving and slashing skills. He will be another great senior leader.

Martin Seiferth will also be a senior next year. He elevates quickly and has good hops for a big man. One of the reasons he has so many blocked shots. He runs the floor well and I think he was more physical and stronger this year. I would like to see him become even stronger next year. He can improve on his free throws, which will be important because he forces a lot of fouls.

A junior next season, Tyler Harvey is a scoring machine and his defense improved also this year. I think as other teammates become better offensively it will take some pressure off Tyler and he will not have to force as many shots. But the kid has incredible range and a great release. He is also deceptive as a slasher.

Daniel Hill will be a junior next year. He came off the bench and ran the point this season. He did a good job most of the time, but I think can improve on his passing. At times he made soft passes that led to some turnovers or forced people out of position.

Another junior next season, Venky Jois dominated at times this year. I would like to see Venky Jois develop a good mid-range game. He is outstanding at taking the ball to the rim and getting offensive boards and defensive boards. I think his offensive game would improve greatly if he could hit those 10-15 foot jump shots. I watched a bunch of games this year and he rarely shot jump shots. He gets to the line a lot and struggles at times with free throws. His form looks pretty good though and he will improve at the line.

Another junior next year, Thomas Reuter played solid defense coming off the bench. His offensive skills need some work, but he is very athletic and I think will contribute more next year.

Ognjen Miljkovic (OG) as a true freshman showed some great moves to the basket. He handles the ball really well and has great range on his jump shot. At 6-7 with his great offensive skills, he will be a terror in the BSC.

Felix Van Hofe another true freshman struggled early in the season, but as the season progressed he seemed to become more confident and by the end of the season was shooting 3s extremely well. As with OG, I think he will tear up the conference.

It will be interesting to see the development of Frederick Jorg after redshirting this season. At 7-1 he looks to be in excellent physical condition. He should be a great compliment to the rest of the frontcourt.

I don’t think Sir Washington played any this year so assume he will be a redshirt freshman next year. Will have to wait and see next year.

Seems like the teams that the Eagles struggled against the most have a lot of team speed and good passing and ball movement. Watch the Zags and other winning teams ball movement. Smooth, quick ball movement creates lots of offensive opportunities. Is this a coaching emphasis or particular player skills.
I noticed later in the season Vinky started passing without staring the guy down. Some quick teams really picked the pockets of the Eagles by watching our slow passes.

I agree clawman. Early in the season the EAGS offense seemed bogged down with the guards spending too much time with ball screens on the perimeter. I think the offense improved a bunch throughout the season and it seemed the offense ran more back screens from the post.

I don't think the EAGS pass the ball as fast as they should. The EAGS need to be at the level of Weber State for ball movement, as you probably noticed how fast Weber State moved the ball, especially with crisp passes.

I don't want to be perceived as picking on individual players, but I think Venky Jois who has great post moves would really benefit from taking and of course making jump shots when he gets the ball near the foul line on the high post. If he developed a mid-range jump shot, he would put a huge amount of pressure on defenses as they would have to either get burned by him or collapse on him leaving our 3 pt bombers open for shots.

Tough season this year, as much as the team improved, we still didn't even make the conference tourney in one of the worst conferences in the country.

We have some youth and should be good, like top 4 in the Big Sky good next year, but we will see. I really thought we had the makings of a good team this year, we had a favorable schedule, the conference was generally down, and we had some returning talent. While we made some jumps in the right direction, we still have a long ways to go.

Hopefully these guys can work to get better in the offseason and compete for a BSC championship next year.

As far as what we need...we could use a couple of athletic wings. The lock down defender, get out in transition type players. We have enough scorers, would be nice to bring in a couple lengthy athletes that can defend and get to the rim.
