thats not important to me. whats important to me is my university as a whole and the best thing for the university is a winning sports program. like it or not having a winning sports program leads to more fans, more money and school recognition. talking about the best gpa in the big sky is just a way to make our baD season after bad season seem like no big deal. i want big fast football players here, i dont care about gpa as long as they meet the min requirements. why should our athletic teams have to have higher graduation rates than non athlete incoming students? i would love if we can have them both, but the sports fan in me is sick of hearing about it when our teams are so awful. its like a conselation prize so we dont seem like total failures. i dont want to jinx us, but we have both right now. go jacks :thumb:

Putting sports above all else at my alma mater puts NAU right in line with those shitbags in the SEC (the "southern" football conference...not the Securities and Exchange Commision...though I'm sure they'd irritate me if I furthered my research).

Expecting minimum academic requirements and bending on decisions regarding "character" at the FCS level leads to the kind of shit storm that is currently going on in Missoula. NAU had similar grade and behavior issues in the mid-late 90s. It sucked. I don't want it again.

I will agree to disagree overall on this topic with you, jacksdude. But I do think NAU has the mix right at the moment as the players are doing well on and off the field.

the university needs to worry about graduation as a whole not just the athletes. im not these athletes parents, theyre on a full ride here and im not concerned with what they do after. theyre representing my university. being the big sky champions of graduation doesnt sell tickets. and having 75% of our football team graduate hasnt lead to great gameday atmospheres. im not saying athletics above all else, but we are not uc davis here. but iw wont get into an argument with one of my few allies out there{hopefully this season will create more of us}. also i enjoy reading your posts. go jacks take care of business this weekend
