Besides the happiness and pride it would bring all of us, how much is an NCAA bid worth to the basketball program these day? Also recruiting? increased advertising? attendance? What are your guys take on the vaue of this? I think it would be huge. /users/31/07/37/smiles/681496.gif

And yeah I know we haven't made it yet, I am just wondering how much is at stake these next couple weeks.

I concur. It would be very important to the program. The program is moving in the right direction, but we MUST start making it to the big dance to make strides in attendance, recruiting, and credibility in the local media.

Making the tourney would be huge for PSU! Especially after 2005...the year of the Viking! PSU is due...but being a Wildcat I am wanting you to lose on Sat!

I think Saturday will decide the rest of the way as for hosting. With PSU wining and splitting with Weber, PSU will host and be up 3 games on 2nd place team.

If PSU loses my team still has a slight chance to host.

I don't think any other team has a prayer at this point.

PSU has a lot of momentum right now and Weber just lost to the joke - EWU.

The impact on the program cannot be overstated. In many ways a trip to the Big Dance would legitimize PSU as a D-I sports school. Seeing a school's name on the NCAA men's basketball bracket is the single biggest way that people all over the country, including sports fans and non-sports fans, familiarize themselves with a school. Finding a spot in the public consciousness goes a long way in building PSU as a brand.
Locally, we'd see additional publicity, increased fan fervor, improved recruiting appeal, and increased revenues. All this would help the effort to build a new arena!

It would serve as a fitting reward for the seniors Scott Morrison, Deonte Huff and Dupree Lucas. They would get the opportunity to play another game on the caliber of the game at Pauley Pavillion, but this time on the national stage.

Remember years ago when Weber State upset North Carolina? Such an opportunity would be the Vikings'. As far as I'm concerned, each game is preparation for the big sky tournament for performance there and on the national stage.

Oregon and Oregon State may not be making an appearance this year, so the Vikings may well be the only team to represent the state of Oregon.

The greatest game in WSU history...and one of the greatest if not the greatest moment in Big Sky history in any sport period!

This clip is part 3 of 3 video clips of the 1998-99 Weber State basketball team. This clip is the Big Sky Championship game continued (first 2:56) and then the NCAA 1st Rd game against North Carolina (2:56 and on).

Weber State went 13-3 in conference in the 1998-99 season. Coach Abegglen lead the team to the Big Sky Championship where the 'Cats beat the Lumberjacks of NAU. NAU's coach at the time was Ben Howland, former WSU basketball player and current UCLA head coach.

The Weber/North Carolina game is still considered one of the biggest first round upsets in NCAA Tournament history. Since this historical game between the 14-seed Weber State Wildcats and the 3-seed North Carolina Tarheels, only two 14's have won since.

After the North Carolina game the 'Cats would go on to lose to the Florida Gators in overtime.

1999 was the Tarheels 25th consecutive Tournament appearance, the loss to Weber was their first 1st round loss in 19 years.

1998: UNC lost to Utah, Final 4
1999: UNC lost to Weber, 1st Rd
2000: UNC lost to Florida, Final 4

Oh man, that's a great video. The end of the UNC game is sweet.

PSU making the tourney could do wonders for the whole athletic department as it could serve as a rallying point for success. Winning in the tourney would be nothing short of basketball nirvana. Heck, even if the win the conference title and don't make it, they go to the NIT under the new rules and even that would be okay.
