What is up with DC

What is going on with Donnie Carson? He was exciting to watch one of my favorites. He looks sluggish and uninterested on the floor. Has OB finally broken him down?

Not just DC. After watching last night's game with Montana Tech, it's a wonder how the Bengals ever played the Ducks closely and caught up to USC. It was, however, easy to see why they got blown out of the other games.
They did a wonderful job of keeping Montana Tech in the game and allowing them to stay with and almost surpass the Bengals. Turnovers and inability to hit free throws were killing us. A couple of MT 3's that could have gone in would have given ISU another "L." MT was a good team and they played with heart.
What gives with O'Brien's starter and substitution scheme? Does he really have one? Austin K starts both halves but then is subbed out after what seems to be about a short 3-5 minutes. Barely time to warm up and he's on the bench. Seems like O'Brien does that alot.
By the way, the Bingham County morgue had more life in it than the Holt. But with that style and level of play, it's no wonder.

No doubt!

If a player is struggling it must be because big bad Coach O'Brien has killed his confidence.

AND

Montana Tech is horrible...

OGDEN, Utah -- Franklin Session scored 15 points, including a pair of late free throws, to help Weber State defeat Montana Tech 73-70 on Wednesday night.

Damian Lillard, who finished with 13 points, hit a pair of free throws to give the Wildcats (4-4) the lead for good at 71-70 with 1:37 remaining.

Dean Colbray had a game-high 25 points for Montana Tech (4-7), an NAIA school that counted the game as an exhibition. Kellen Hasquet added 15.

Trailing 56-48 with 11:48 remaining, Weber State went on a 12-3 run that ended with a 3-pointer by Kyle Bullinger. Matt Washington had five of his nine points during that stretch.

we were behind most of that game and honestly we should have lost that game.

Cub...
I, too, find it interesting that if a player that has performed well in the past struggles, it must be the coach's fault. I'm surprised, after acknowledging DC's inconsistency last year as well, that blaming the head coach must be the first answer. It is not my place to comment on what might be behind players' struggles, but I feel quite confident in saying that Coach O'Brien has greatly tempered his approach with players on the team. I actually have found over the past two years that Coach OB is far less harsh on his players than Jon Newlee was with the women's teams he coached here. Jon's intensity with players during practices was far greater than what Joe exhibits. To suggest that he has finally "broken down" any player seems ludicrous to one that travels with this team to every game it plays. Frankly, IMHO, if Newlee were coaching the men's team this year, some players would already have had their butts run off doing stairs in Holt Arena...or running ladders. Joe just yells occasionally.

If copying Newlee's style would help, maybe O'Brien SHOULD have his team running stairs. The Bengals basically played listless and uninspired ball and won in spite of themselves against a good Montana Tech team - good because they played with heart and hustle and as a team. We'll see what happens with the Conference starting New Year's Eve. Good thing OB doesn't want the team to peak too early in the season. Yeah, right.
