What is your guess for wins for this year?

Good old Sam Herder of Hero Sports puts us at 7.5 over under in wins, he is such a homer to MU and MSU, 9.5 wins for Montana and 8.5 for Montana State. In my opinion, I think our schedule is somewhat easy.

I say we go 8-3, with losses to Cal, Montana, and one surprise . Good enough for a chance at retribution in an opening round playoff game.

I’ll go with 8-3 as well, I’m torn on the Montana and Davis games, but I’ll stick with what I put below

Dixie State W
Northern Iowa L
Cal L
Idaho State W
Southern Utah W
Montana W
Northern Arizona W
Northern Colorado W
Cal Poly W
Portland State W
UC Davis L

We go 11-0.

In all seriousness, I have high expectations for this season. As some of you may recall, I was championing Troy Taylor for HC while he was still at Folsom. I believe in him, his system and ability to develop QB’s.

My expectations are high because they’ve had a year plus of no games and learning the system. They also seemingly recruited very well, attracting some 2, 3 and 4 star talents.

I think this team can go 9-2, but 8-3 is probably more realistic. 7-4 would be just ok and anything less a disappointment.

I’m with you, have very high expectations for this team. I went to school with Troy, so I have always been a big fan of his and watched the program at Folsom, then on to Eastern Washington as the QB coach, then to Utah with the same position.

I didn’t want to sound too cocky saying 9-2, or even 10-1, but I think sky’s the limit with this team and the tremendous coaching staff that they put together. I want to beat Montana more than anything, I get tired of every one talking about the Montana schools like they are the only ones to exist in the conference. I guess we got lucky not having Weber on our schedule.

Better yet, Weber got lucky not having the Hornets on their schedule. ;)

Circling back to Troy, I was a freshman when he was a Senior and my HS varsity team faced Cordova during the playoffs. I followed his career ever since.

I met him his final season at Folsom when I ran into him at a HS game he was scouting. As a fellow HS/youth football coach we had some acquaintances. Anyway, he was the nicest guy. I could easily see the personality qualities that make him a players coach.

I’m not saying we can’t beat Weber, it’s just the one team in the conference that beat us last year, so I would love another shot at them.

Back to Troy, we went to middle school together and the high school at Bella Vista before he transferred to Cordova. He was a friend of mine back then and knew he would achieve great things. I now have a friend who who also knows him from the Cordova days as well.

This is arguably the most talented team in Hornet history coupled with a very competent coaching staff. If they can just figure out the QB situation, they will possibly only lose to Cal. They're definitely covering that spread. I can even see the upset. They took this time off to perfect their system and most of all they are healthy. I truly believe the Hornets will be a force of nature this year in the Big Sky.

Heart says 11-0 but brain says 10-1 with the 1 loss being at Cal. I'm confident we can beat everyone else!

Stingers Up!!!

I think so too. I think clearly the defense has improved over prior, and that will keep us in games. I think the QB room is very solid, I do not see a drop off there, stronger at WR. Special teams solid. They know who they face with UNI, I think Southern UT is probably the X game on the schedule in my mind. I am going to hedge myself with 9 wins though.

It’s funny, not a lot of people knew or remembered that Troy was at BV before Cordova. That kinda transfer stuff wasn’t highly publicized back in those days.

Just curious, what schools did you go to back then? I was born in Carmichael, but grew up in Citrus Heights and Orangevale. I moved to OV in 3rd grade and attended Oakview Elementary and Louis Pasteur Middle school before attending Casa Roble High.

With San Juan Unified being an open district, my friends were spread out all over Citrus Heights, Orangevale and Fair Oaks schools. Even some Roseville kids. I went to school with kids that ended up at Bella Vista, Del Campo, Mesa Verde, Oakmont and San Juan.

Nice!

You’re slightly older than I, but I’ll bet we know of many of the same people.

Here’s my prediction (9-2)
Like everyone else, I think this year’s team has the talent to run the table. Yes, that means beating Cal, Montana, and Davis on their turf. It really depends on the QB play, which I think Taylor is keeping close to his vest up until the final Friday and maybe even game time of the first week. We need to beat Northern Iowa, in case we don’t get the BSC automatic bid for any hope of getting an at large bid.

I also think that anything below 7 wins would be a failure. And as every season goes, an L against David would be a failure.

@Dixie State W
Northern Iowa W
@Cal L
@Idaho State W
Southern Utah W
@Montana L
Northern Arizona W
@Northern Colorado W
Cal Poly W
Portland State W
@UC Davis W

Head: 8-3
Heart: 7-4
Gut: 6-5

Year off, loss of experienced D players due to graduation, early season bugs with N. Iowa and CAL. Montucky at home after covid, NArizona always hard and UCFE is unpredictable.

That sounds almost backwards, GCM. How is your heart more pessimistic than your head? As all the world knows, I typically prognosticate more with my heart than my head, hence my prediction of 11-0. Even if your heart doesn't run as far ahead as mine, shouldn't it at least be out in front of your head?

Schedule is way softer than it was for the 2019 Title run, although hard to gage everything with the spring schedule last year. Every game on the schedule is winnable, anything less than 8 wins is a disappointment with 7 or less wins being an abject failure. 7 wins won’t be enough for a playoff berth so 8 or more wins is the benchmark.

We’ll go 8-3 (7-1 BSC) for a share of the BSC Title.

Sep 4 - at Utah Tech - Win
Sep 11 - vs Northern Iowa - Loss
Sep 18 - at Cal - Loss
Sep 25 - at Idaho State - Win
Oct 9 - vs Southern Utah - Win
Oct 16 - at Montana - Loss
Oct 23 - vs Northern Arizona - Win
Oct 30 - at Northern Colorado - Win
Nov 6 - vs Cal Poly - Win
Nov 13 - vs Portland State - Win
Nov 20 - at Causeway - Win
