Hey I was wondering if any of you guys( all 3 of you) know what happened to Deonte Williams(The freshman RB from last season who had a great year) or also the freshmen basketball player Shayar Lee who started for us? I tried to do some research online but could find nothing on either of them. I recently saw a Deonte Williams highlight video on youtube from his first year at NAU and I forgot how many big plays he made.
Go JACKS!!!!!!!!!!!

This is all strictly here-say and conjecture so take it as you will as I have no written proof....

Deonte Williams transferred but don't know where. Back to his home in California?

Shayar Lee (ouch....that one hurt....quite the talent for a little old NAU recruit) transferred to, if I remember hearing correctly, a junior college in Texas somewhere?

Don't know the story behind either but wish em both the best. There was a topic here a while back delving into what happened with Lee. Go ahead and peruse old posts and see what you find.

A recruit/player somewhere like UofA or North Carolina or USC who doesn't look both ways before crossing the street will be all over the internet in a heartbeat. That's not the case with NAU. Players come and players go with limited or no coverage. The part of me that wants to slow down and look at car crashes wants to know but unless it's an ethics breach and makes the newspaper, I'm not privy to know why kids choose to take a different path. Less drama (that we as fans are aware of) in NAU's athletics program than the big boy schools but I'll take what NAU has over the USC's and Ohio State's of the world where winning and winning alone is priority number one.

I noticed yesterday that NAU has a new walk-on for basketball and, from what I gathered, Eric House is no longer on the roster. No idea what happened? Kinda like the Twilight Zone around here sometimes.

We had 2 or 3 starters kicked off the basketball team mid season last year for smoking marijuana and I never saw anything about it anywhere!!! And they were contributors!!! Like you said players just seem to dissappear. I think we never really hear about it because nobody in Flagstaff(Except a very small minority) gives a rats a** about NAU athletics. Student support has been good this season-"best its been in years" according to those from before my time- but the opposite side of the field has been a ghost town except for when the Griz Train rolled through town. Has it always been like that? Some High School teams get better turnouts than that. Maybe its because the only sports most people in Flagstaff know are rockclimbing, snowboarding, and hiking? Or perhaps its the lack of advertisement due to the incredibly small budget. You could wander around Flagstaff for a full day and not know that NAU had a football team. Or is simply because we are in the lowly FCS, the FBS's doormat and punching bag. Well the last time I checked FCS is still D-1 football! I mean it could be a hell of alot worse, we could be DII or DIII. The Big Sky Conference is a very competitive conference with great talent. K.J Gerard just was signed to the active roster of the Baltimore Ravens. Tickets are given away, and I mean literally given away. I mean we could really make the dome an intimidating place to play. We already have the advantage of being at 7,000 feet and if we could make it loud in there.....Anyway thats my two cents.

I'm glad to hear the student body is turning out to support the teams. I was there from 2004-2007 and attendance to the games was laughable, specially at volleyball and women's basketball. The student were just not showing up. The community support has always been poor. At least now we have the students. NAU has some of the better teams in the big sky and it's sad to see that the community doesn't see that. They would rather stay at home and watch ASU or U of A on TV than go to a live NAU game. I don't knwo who is to blame, maybe the poor advertisement, or maybe the culture of the town, I really can't put a finger on it. It's nice to see the student support on TV. The crowd at volleyball games are the most improved, back in the day you would see maybe 10-20 people in the stands, but now it looks like it's more like 200-300 which is a major improvement. Keep it up Jack pack!!!
