I've been thinking about doing a little write-up on some former WSU greats and what they are up to these days. I was hoping some of you die-hards like oldrunner could help me out. Here's a list of some of the guys and if any of you know anything about there whereabouts or even if they are still alive, that would be awesome...

Bruce Collins - Someone told me he lives in Seattle now
Shawn Campbell
Bob Davis
Al Hamilton
Tom Heywood
David Johnson
Stan Mayhew
Dick Motta - I hear he's living at some cabin up by Bear Lake
Richard Smith
Dan Sparks
Jimmy DeGraffenreid
Jimmy Watts
Damien Baskerville - I'm told he's been in West/South Jordan after his prison release

motta:
motta does live at bear lake on the idaho side and owns the blue bird inn and also the blue bird candy store in logan.

heywood:
i think heywood is a local because bengalhater knows or met him or his family.

stan mayhew:
must live in eugene, or. his son is a senior at cs northridge. he went to missouri state , then slcc then csn.

shawn campbell:
i thought i remember hearing he was a high school basketball coach, if this is even right, i am not sure what state it was in.

as for who is still alive....since the program is not that old...the first DI players we had could be no older than maybe 72. 50 yrs of DI bball + age 22. i am only aware of 2 players that have died. sojourner in 2005 and rob thomas in 1979 or 1980 while he was a player.

roger reid would be one of our oldest wsu basketball alumni. motta is the oldest of all the former coaches. it would be way awesome to see some of these guys honored at a game while they are still around. many of us have never seen them before.

i was at a usu game in logan 3-5 yrs ago and they honored all their great players and coaches. they had a big line across the court at halftime and mentioned each guy. dutch belnap was even one of the honorees. it was pretty cool to see all their famous players they have had. the oldest guy and first in line was a guy who played in like the 30s or 40's he was way old like 90 or something.

unrelated to the topic but we are also the only school in the state with 0 retired numbers.

Brad Barton and Rico Washington have also passed away.

Last I heard, Shawn Campbell is teaching and coaching in Florida. He has two sons who were supposed to be over 7' tall. I'm not sure what they are up to.

I talked to Bruce Collins at a game last year. At that time, he was still living in Rock Springs Wyo. Another Wyoming guy, Gerald Matinson, is coaching the womens BB team at UW.

Pat Danley lives in the Ogden area and attends most of our games.

oh i feel bad forgetting brad. i saw pat at the sac game. it was the first time i had seen him since maybe 2005 season.

David Johnson owned and operated a printing business in the Ogden area for many years. He may still be in the business.

Mark Matos is an MD, somewhere in the midwest, I think.

Last I heard, Al Hamilton was playing professionally somewhere.

Doug Eilertson is a local business person and was living in South Ogden, I believe.

Last I heard anything about Richard Smith, someone had seen him walking around Ogden, looking like a vagabond. :yikes:

What about some more recent players? My history goes back about 10 years so these guys stand out in my mind.
Jermaine Boyette
Patten
Allred
Kellon McCoy

Every one of those guys are playing professionally overseas. Except for maybe McCoy. He may be back home in Oklahoma now. I think Allred is in Japan.
Patten was playing in Mexico for a while, but he may be back in Ogden permanently now. I've seen him at many WSU games this season. His family is in California, so he may be going back and forth from the two. Some of the other guys on this forum probably can clarify all that.
As for Boyette, he seems like a tough one to track down. I know he was playing overseas, but I haven't heard anything for a while.

other 2003 team...

talhadfoursteals' favorite player talmadge had 3 steals eyre currently has been living in manhattan for the past 5 years and is planning to move to switzerland permanently in a year or 2 as his wife is from there. maybe he will hang with thurig and bachman lol.

marlon carter i think lives in salt lake.

patten jr said nick sparrow lives in ogden.

johnny hamilton married a girl at weber and has been here since college. he owns a sandwich/icecream shop in eden called moose something. i went there maybe 3-4 yrs ago.

Rico Washington passed away? When, and how? He couldn't have been that old.

Rico Washington

dead at age 28

OGDEN - Former Weber State University men's basketball standout, Rico Washington, died Thursday night in a Philadelphia, Pennsylvania hospital of an apparent stroke.

According to his sister, Rico had just completed playing a summer league basketball game, when he came home and collapsed. He was rushed to the hospital where he died a short time later. Washington was 28 years old.

Rico came to Weber State during the 1986-87 season and sat out as a red-shirt. His junior season (1987-88) was played under coach Larry Farmer.

The next year under coach Denny Huston, Washington led the 'Cats to a 17-11 record, averaging 22.1 points and 10.8 boards per game.
