Where goes Idaho?

With the implosion of the WAC, with UTah State and SJSU going to Mountain West, and LA Tech going to Conference USA ( along with UTSA, who was supposed to join the WAC) that leaves Idaho without a place to go? Is the Big Sky a possibility?

If we're talking basketball, then there is still a chance that the WAC remains as a non-football conference. Granted, it's a long shot.

The WAC (non-football) would have these teams for 2013, based on what we know/assume for now:

Idaho
New Mexico State
Boise State
Seattle
Denver
Texas-Arlington

They would most likely have to add Utah Valley and Cal State Bakersfield to get to 8. However, I think UT-Arlington pulls back and stays in the Southland -- especially since Oral Roberts moves there this season, and they won't be the sole team without a football team there anymore.

It's still a shaky conference, and I think its chances are slim.

From a basketball standpoint, I'd rather have New Mexico State. It has excellent facilities and a lot of recent success. I'd venture to guess the Big Sky pursues Idaho, though.

The Montana's and Eastern all would push for Idaho. NMSU is too far out of the Big Sky footprint, but then again, UND is here. So, what do I know. I'd agree, I think NMSU would be a better addition than Idaho.

I would prefer we split up the two conferences and start over. The wac is too small the big sky too big. Take the top schools from each conference and put them in one and the bottom teams in the other.

how about this:

big sky east
weber state
suu
montana
montana state
idaho state

big sky west
sac state
uc davis
cal poly
santa clara
pacific
san francisco state
uc santa cruz

catcat, add Idaho to the East list, and take santa clara off the West, I doubt SC would leave the WCC

Boise St in discussions with the Big West and MWC will stay at 9/10 after adding USU and SJSU. MWC does not want Idaho or NM St.

I think it is quite clear where Idaho goes. NMSU, on the otherhand, is a complete mystery. Las Cruses is a hell of a long ways from nowhere. Is there a confrence near Guadalahara? What would they bring to the table besides pistacheos and peppers. I don't think the Texas schools want them and they are the closest. :yikes:

One possible scenario is that Idaho and NMST get an invite to the Sun Belt for football only, and join with Denver, Seattle, Boise, Utah Valley, and Bakersfield to form a new non-football WAC. The Sun Belt would then get to 12 in football, and nobody really wants any of these schools for the other sports without football.

A less likely scenario would be the WAC ceasing to exist, Idaho moving to the Big Sky, NMST moving to the Sun Belt, Denver and Seattle moving to the WCC, and Boise moving to the Big West.

Fullerton better not let the Broncos come back. I say NO to Boise!! Let them flounder in the hole they have dug.

New Mexico State will find a home. They are in the geographic footprint of the Sun Belt, not that the Belt should be FBS football, but...they will still lose. Idaho, they are screwed. Welcome back to the Big Sky.

Maybe this is Weber's chance to really raise the level of basketball, and other olympic sports where we are strong. Let's tell the Sky that we will stick around for football only. Then build the WAC for other sports:

Seattle
Denver
Weber
Boise
Idaho
NMSU
SDSU
Hawaii

I like it

Wouldn't be a bad plan. Problem with that group though would be the fact that Weber's athletic budget would be significantly less than all the other members. Not that it matters, Weber is already in that position and the Cats have been extrememly successful. Personally, I dont' think it will ever happen. Boise and SDSU stay in the Big East will be short. I could see both schools returning to the MW in a couple of years.

What was with Idaho's kinda press conference on Friday? Was it an attempt to stay relevant? Idaho's president said one of the reasons for Idaho to stay FBS is because most land grants are FBS. :dunce: Okay...
