OK... Eastern played pretty bad yesterday. It was a tough opponent who I firmly believe are the best in the Pac-12--- even moreso than I did yesterday morning. That UW team was really good and played excellent. They did what a quality BCS team should do to a quality FCS team, they jumped us early and kept the throttle down.

Still, we had a game thread that was basically two pages (not including earlier comments from before game day). We had at best 5,000 Eagle fans at the game, probably the fewest I've seen at a Seattle game. There's finally some movement on the stadium project, which has been the most pressing university issue for the football program of the last decade. On paper, this team could still be the best team in the conference and poised for a deep playoff run.

Where the fuck are the fans? The team can use the support right now, because it's still all to play for. We win the next three games, all very winnable games IMO, and we're 3-1 and in great shape for conference play.

As far as the game thread goes, the Hope was pretty much gone by the end of the first quarter so at least there wasn’t pages and pages of negativity. I’m stoked for the season, but a little disappointed in our home schedule. A couple wins under our belt and I think you will feel it.

Something just didn't seem right about the team during the first quarter against UW. EWU seemed to show up more in the second quarter, and maybe it'd have been a closer game had the first quarter not been so terrible. But it seemed like we made UW earn most of their points.

At least against WSU we were in the game until that aweful 5 or so minutes late on the game where we gave up 20 points during that span.

UW is a good team with excellent coaching though. If we had the luxury of playing San Jose, for example, we'd likely have won.

As I mentioned on another thread I saw no team or individual emotional spirit, no guys jumping around before, or during the game. (The pre-game Alum Tailgate Breakfast was pretty quiet too?) We got off to a bad start intermediately with the illegal procedure calls and were down 28 soon. Twice great Husky punts and coverage pinned us inside our 5 yard line. I thought our defensive played better than the offense. Naturally the Eagle fans were pretty quiet. The big program games starting off the season are good, and in spite of my comments, I think this game provided some excellent education opportunities for improvement next week. Are we still on schedule to play Florida, first game in 2020?

Agreed on all fronts.

Yes on Florida as the opener. I understand we have a healthy buy-out they could, in theory, exercise. But we'd still make a lot of $$$. I just hope we have a hurricane clause in the contract that gets us paid if they cancel.

I think a few things led to this weekends low involvement. Labor Day weekend being one, playing a really good FBS team was two, and having the ticket prices be upwards of 80 dollars per ticket for nosebleed seats was three.

I am concerned/bummed however, about the dropping (slightly) attendance numbers at home games the last couple seasons. They’re still selling out, but not as high numbers. I’m also bummed to see the large number of available seats still there for this weekend. That regular season sellout streak could be in some jeopardy.

Well I'm jacked for the season and I'll be in the stands Sat. yelling my ass off. We should have had a better showing and we didn't quit allthough not sure we started and that surprised me, don't care that UW is good.
*2010 has a point and my 2 cents is that it's about the weakest home schedule I've seen in some time, ticket prices are high and I won't sit in visitors side bleachers anymore. With that said I believe we can put that game behind us and put it together for a great season...we have a great staff and loaded with studs.
GO EAGS!!

Last UW game I attended prior to this year's was 2011. Was pretty inebriated in that one, so I can't compare on Eagle attendance. I saw a bunch of Eagles tailgating and in the stands though.

Like others have mentioned, the team didn't seem too invested in this game, no fire. They played very conservative IMO, the playcalling seemed timid as well; throwing bubble screens against UW's size and speed is a recipe for very quickly popped bubbles. Was that Shoemaker's first game calling plays against an FBS opponent? If so, learning lesson for him I hope; we need to be more aggressive. No turnovers was really good though.

You took the words right out of my mouth and I think you are spot-on. Conservative and timid play calling was a huge part of it. I'm not saying we would have won the game with aggressive play calling, but at least we would have given them our best shot. They didn't get our best shot and I'm guessing that's what's frustrating some fans. Let EB3 be an athlete and go do some damage. The kid is dynamic and I believe he could have carved up U-dub with his legs a little bit more. Also, design some plays that get him out of pocket. He's 6'0" so that will open up some passing lanes and give him better windows to throw into. I felt like he was constantly in the pocket and a sitting duck and that should not be the case for a guy with his athletic ability.

Also, let's take some shots downfield. I just watched the game from the last time we played UW and VA was consistently putting pressure on all those NFL defensive backs by throwing the ball deep. Let's put some of our speed out there and take some shots. That will help keep the safeties honest. We need a Baldwin like mindset when we're playing against the big boys. Let's throw a few more uppercuts...... not going to beat the big boys with jabs. Not giving up. I think we go to The Natty and Win It and I'm sticking to that.

go eags!

I’m not worried one bit, I don’t see us losing another game this season…

Washington is a really good FBS team, they have a shot at making the playoffs this year, I don’t think we can be too disappointed by this loss.

I think EB3, Boston, and Ojoh are in for MONSTER years and we will all be pleasantly surprised how well we do this year.

I think we definitely have the talent to make it back to Frisco this year…looking forward to the first home game on Saturday where we are going to absolutely lay the wood.

EB3 needs to get better with making proper reads. I think the UW defense rattled him early and he never quite overcame the jitters. He made a lot of bad reads and seemed unwilling to keep the ball and use his legs to get yards. There were a handful of plays he could've made by keeping the ball and getting upfield. When you run a lot of RPO type stuff, getting the QB to make fast and accurate decisions is paramount. Historically, Eric has done a great job with his decision-making, but last Saturday he seemed off. And to top it off, he threw a lot of good passes that were dropped.

I know that we have the talent to make it back to the ship, but Shoemaker's play calling against UW does not inspire confidence in his abilities. Definitely too early to be pessimistic. I hope he's a quick learner and opens up the playbook. We have the athletes and talent do anything we want against the rest of the schedule.

Let's get real. U of W is very good and we made several first game mistakes. How many dropped passes were there in the game? Eason feasted on our young corners. Best and the crew will make this team better every week. We have new offense and defensive coaches that will make adjustments every week. Our Eag's could be 11-1 by the end of the season. GO EAGS!!!
